I'm in no real rush to play it in Linux using WINE. I'm not all that thrilled with the game in Windows with regards to performance. I can't see it being any better in WINE.

Any particular commands you're looking for? I'm not entirely clear how versed you are in the linux command set. If you need the basic command set that you're most likely to use in the course of setting up the game. But if you've got the basics down already, that won't be of much use. First things yo...

Alright, the problem was I was opening the drivers in a text edit program... Now thats settled, the graphics all run really smooth. Now all I need is the wireless internet to work. (and NWN) Which version of Ubuntu are you running? I'm currently on 6.10 (Edgy Eft) but I was using 6.06 (Dapper Drake...

Um, the only reason Ubuntu isnt shipping with the proprietary video drivers for the next release is that according to them Beryl isnt stable enough to be shipped as default. *buntu is rapidly moving in the direction of least likely to pay attention to FL/OSS unlike its parent Debian that is one of ...

Ubuntu is wery nice if you need nothing more than what coms on the first disk, but ubuntu is to Open source, and will not include ANYTHUING not fully GPLed. Where did you get the idea that it does not include anything that isn't fully GPL'd? All you have to do is enable the universe and multiverse ...

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Fedora_FC6 will show you pretty much everything you need to get started. Good looking wiki. I'll have to bookmark that in case anyone I know decides to use Fedora. No distribution is painless, try getting the latest java plugins working, or flash installed, or the latest...

The following are simply my observations. It goes without saying that if use of a particular distribution works for you, it's a very good thing. Linux and open source is all about freedom, after all. Freedom to choose what works for us being one of those freedoms. After using Linux for 11 years, and...

Re: Noobie Distro

OK I used to recommend Ubuntu to everyone as a newbie distro. That isnt the case anymore. PCLinuxOS 2007 release 1 is now my newbie distro of choice. 1: Wireless networking is much easier to deal with than in Ubuntu 2: nVidia drivers are 1000x easier in PCLOS to set up 3: Getting your DVD's playing...

Honestly its easier to get the nvidia drivers into FC5 than it is to do it in any debian based distro so far. Ubuntu Edgy holds some promise though, unfortunatly I had a bad download and made a coaster out of my last blank CD so I cant elaborate further on it. When I looked through the cd payload f...

Running it under Ubuntu Linux 6.06 (Dapper Drake) here. Much more stable than under Windows. The game is more fluid and less jittery for me. Running it with an Nvidia GeForce 6800 based card.

A couple more to add to the list GAIM Your multipurpose IM client. For those of you who use Trillian in Windows, it's the same concept. Except this one is a heck of a lot less prone to crashing. Evolution Think Microsoft Outlook without the virus vulnerabilities. Of course, if you don't need anythin...

I need to get into linux, I hate GUI's... I miss my DOS :( You may not want to hear it, but my first suggestion would be to ditch Fedora and install Ubuntu. Once you enable the additional repositories, you'll be able to install your Nvidia drivers as well as a kernel that is better suited to your h...

I just never understood having the class pally without their warhorse! I use to play a pally in p&p and my warhorse rocked! Adding horses to the game i think is only natural and even pallys should be able to summon their warhorses (which would be even better)! Thats not the thing thats missing for ...
