Well some of their weaknesses are bugs. SR is extremely bugged, especially for Warlocks, but that's fixable. Touch AC is a lot higher than it should be in the OC because...Obsidian sucks at designing monsters. Hideous Blow should be done better, but tricky to script.
Balance based off the OC is tough too. It's really hard to not take Vamp Feast as everyone's first epic feat, because the way it's coded is instant win if two go off at the same time... Hags: aggro them all into a small area, bald chick, goth dude, winged chick and me all hit vamp feast. Then we all ding... Actually, what does an epic Warlock do against a Phane or something besides die hideously? Ok, I kid, those things are really under CR'd http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/monsters ... .htm#phane
The shapes are interesting...however it is really, really, really tempting to pull the plug on warlocks to free up those 8 or so metamagic slots (hardcoded, we can't add more directly). PnP doesn't have much help for Warlocks either, no good PrCs (you can sell your soul for 3 levels that add 2d6/level to your blast for a con hit each time you use it) and very few essences beyond what's already in the game that are worth the time to do.
I guess I'm saying, what am I missing about Warlocks? Except for haste at will and the longest ranged attack allowed by the engine, what does one bring to a party?
