Items Create Artificial Character Classes

Post by ~CN~ETH0S_ns3 »

I had this idea that sounds like a scripting nightmare to some degree, but there are work-arounds.

I had the idea when thinking about D2 (Diablo 2). One of my favorite classes, but sucked in the higher levels as you went through 'Hell' and 'Nightmare' levels, was the Necromancer. Particularly the one that specialized in undead armies and ones that cast 'Bone Wall'. Very nice effects, and would be incredibly useful on those DWP runs where you are mobbed by rabid and hellish dwarves.

You could semi-do that utilizing the creation of special items to fit specilized characters. I don't know how much Fang and the other developers are interested in doing something like this, but you could create an item that creates a 'placeable' object like the boulders the DM's love throwing on my EC Caravans. In order to get or use this object, you set it to where you have to have a certain amount of wisdom, have a number of points to Spell casting, etc etc. Sky is the limit. Of course you may have to go in and altar the 'permissions' script on the DM_affects, or placeable's to include players. But I think it's a neat idea never-the-less. Another problem might be how to get the enemies to hack-through the boulders. I'm not sure about this, but i think you can script the boulder to be a certain 'faction' where the dwarves will attack it, as an npc maybe.

Thoughts?
