Mods: I am posting this to all the server specific boards because it appears that some people only read the board for the server they play on. If that is too close to spamming to boards, feel free to move this post to the General Discussion board, or something along those lines.

The Hitchhikers Guide to NeverSummer - Midwest

Brought to you by the MidWest Tourism Council (aka – Forge)

What is MidWest:

MidWest is the PvP server for the NeverSummer mod. PvP and Pickpocket is unrestricted. That means you might die, unexpectedly. You might also loose some gear unexpectedly as well. However, there are rules in place to ensure that things don’t go too far. If they do, there are players and DMs in place to bring about swift justice. Healthy PvP and competition is the norm on MidWest… not griefing.

What to do while on MidWest:

Play against some of the toughest challenges that the NeverSummer mod has to offer: other players. You think it is tough to complete Demonweb Pits? Ha.. Exalted is a cupcake compared to some of the “evil” groups that inhabit MidWest. There are archers, MPs, Burrfoots, and Speed Racers… and they are formidable enemies. Fortunately for you, the visitor, there are several established guilds (GoN and TC) who will routinely rise up to fight against these unsavory types. Sometimes the good guys win… sometimes they don’t. But, it is always a fight…. a BIG fight.

While playing on MidWest, you will prove yourself among some of the best players that Neversummer has to offer. Surviving on MidWest is a badge of honor. Not everyone has the building skill or mental fortitude that it takes to survive in an environment like this. But, leveling a character to 40 while facing the best and the brightest that MidWest has to offer is a fantastic accomplishment that will give you a lot of satisfaction.

Play how you want. That’s right… you can finally be as bad as you wanna be. Always wanted to kill someone while they were IDing items at City in the Clouds? Do it. Always wanted to Pickpocket a set of Great One Plate off some unsuspecting mark? Do it. But be prepared for the consequences. The same rules that allow you to freely target other players allow those same players to bring the pain to you... and bring it hard. If you begin to harass other players, our faithful DMs will introduce you to a new level of helplessness. But, evil is not only welcome on MidWest, it is encouraged!

What NOT to do while on MidWest:

There is only one rule, really: don’t whine. Don’t whine cause you don’t have gear. Don’t whine cause you got killed. Don’t whine cause my build is better than yours. Go get the gear. Go get revenge. Ask me why my build works so well… I’ll probably tell you. But, for the love of cracker jacks, DON’T WHINE.

Things you will see on MidWest:

Some of the best players on this mod... bar none. The people that do well in the MidWest environment know what works and why. Now, that might sound like MidWest is full of a bunch of arrogant snobs.

It is.

However, they are some of the nicest arrogant snobs you could ever hope to meet. All you have to do is ask nicely, and they’ll bend over backwards to help a newbie out. That means giving you build advice, helping out with gear runs, and hunting down that jerk that just PK’d you. The player base on MidWest is second to none.

Things you will NOT see on MidWest:

People handing out gear. Call it a rite of passage, an unwritten rule, a giant pain in the butt.. whatever… but, newbies aren’t given gear on MidWest. All of us, at one point or another, built our toons from scratch. We found a friend or two and WE JUST DID IT. Heck, right now, some of us are doing it just for fun. It can be done. You can do it too.

Immature players. One of the side effects of the full on PvP rules is that we can vote with our swords about who we want to stay on the server. Players that are disruptive or immature or otherwise unwelcome quickly figure out that the game isn’t much fun when they can’t venture outside of Neversummer City without encountering a hostile player. Player policing is a wonderful thing. The players on MidWest are courteous, funny, and helpful… if they weren’t they’d be dead by now.

Harrassing PvP. Killing you once is fine. But, there is a point where PvP becomes harassment. It varies from situation to situation, but, if you feel like you are being singled out by a player, let the other players know. If the other players agree with you, we can hunt down the offender and give him a taste of his own medicine.

Reasons to give MidWest a shot:

Because you want to prove you’ve got what it takes to play with the best.

Because you want to be good and hunt down villainous scum like the righteous avenger you are.

Because you want to be evil and be hunted like the evil villain that you are.

Because you are tired of listening to that 12 year old talk about how uber his build is and you want to be in an environment where you can make him prove it or shut up.

Because you are tired of logging on and not having anything to do.

Because you know that, deep down, you pwn… you just need a way to prove it.

Closing thoughts from the Tourism Council:

So, we would like to cordially invite you to visit MidWest. We aren’t asking you to abandon your current server, we’re simply asking you to branch out. We always need more players. We need more good guys. We need more bad guys. No matter what your play style, you will find a way to enjoy it more on MidWest.

There are a few guilds that play on MidWest, but there is plenty of room for more. In fact, guilds are one of the best ways to fight against the more organized “bad guys” that pop up from time to time. Some of those battles have been epic. I’m sure that the existing guilds would be more than happy to offer some assistance to new guilds that are just starting out.

MidWest has great players, great DMs, and some great PvP battles. We’d love to have a few more people come and join us. The more the merrier! As the official representative of the MidWest tourism council, I'm obligated to help you get started. Feel free to look me up... all my toons have "Forge" in the name.

I think there should be a poll on this message to see how many people truely believe that griefing rather in play or in tell is not the norm on MW. Rules? What rules last I heard it was a free for all. Swift justice?

Snicker....Not the same MW I left, but guess it's time to put the swift justice and no griefting norm thingy to the test.

What would you consider griefing Zealot? Would you consider a player that PK's another, rezes him, and then PK's him again a griefer. How about one that logs his parked archer in CiC, PK's all who happen to be around, then immediately logs off to avoid retribution.

The beauty of MW is that the players can and do deal with these issues. What you may consider griefing may be nothing more than the players policing bad form by continually pounding him into dust :)

Clearly MW isn't for everyone. You have to be able to dish it out, as well as take it. But how often have you gotten an adrenaline rush by just going to CiC. The potential for death around any corner offers a unique playing style that differs from the other servers. While you still have the same quests/baddies, how often do you get a band of maurauding evil doers attack you in DWP? Some players thrive on this kind of challenge, others don't.

I believe 4ges post was to reach out to players on the other servers who may not truly understand what MW is about. If one player comes over and finds the carnage to his( or her!) liking, then his post was successful.

On a side note, congratulations on your induction into GoN. You will carry on a fine tradition.
