Thundering Rage, Massive Criticals Feat
Looking over some barbarian builds and was wondering what the point of Thundering rage for barbarians would be? besides the 1d4 damage bonus of sonic, most weapons at epic lvls have massive crit property so really no point for the feat. Same as Massive criticals feat, since they don't stack.
Was wondering if Thundering rage could be nerfed to allow for something other than 5 damage increase, maybe making it only available to pure barbs, and adding to ab or something like that.
But as is right now in your opinions as players is thundering rage or massive crit feats worth taking? Why?

1d4 sonic is pretty substantial it is equal to the Weapon Specialization +4dmg but for all weapons the barb uses. And the fact that is elemental damage has its pro's and con's aswell but well worth the limited selection of worthwhile Barbarian feat selectionTwiggy wrote:But as is right now in your opinions as players is thundering rage or massive crit feats worth taking? the massive critical bonus is useless as with Overwhelming Critical feat

do what you do, and i'll do wat i do.Amoenotep wrote:maybe we should just do away with massive crits on weapons......
but i kinda doubt that that would happen. Would be too intensive, would need to rewrite every weapon on the server that has massive crits then ask players who have weapons to turn their weapon in that has it. I don't think Dm's would do that. It would be easier to rewrite the feat if it's possible to do that

1d4 sonic is about 2.5 damage a hit. For a feat, thats pretty awful, given elemental resistance drops it. If it was, say, 1d4 divine, posi or magic damage, then it'd be worth the feat.Alkapwn wrote:1d4 sonic is pretty substantial it is equal to the Weapon Specialization +4dmg but for all weapons the barb uses. i believe it's 1d4 for every succesful hit. i am not sure how u got 2.5 damage a hit, can u please explain?mining wrote:1d4 sonic is about 2.5 damage a hit. 1d4 averages to 5 damage a hit.Twiggy wrote:i believe it's 1d4 for every succesful hit. i am not sure how u got 2.5 damage a hit, can u please explain?mining wrote:1d4 sonic is about 2.5 damage a hit. (1+2+3+4)/4 = 10/4 = 2.5 damage on average. So yeah, you could do 100 damage over the course of 100 hits, but its just as likely you do 400 in that timespan.

and that folks is why i suck at math.....i still don't get it...
1d4 is one dice of 4, so the max should be 4, just like with 2d6 the max should be 12.
why did you add 1+2+3+4 then divide it by 4? and how does "1d4 avgs to 5 damage a hit........." and "2.5 damage on avg" go together?

Woops, change 1d4 averages to 5 damage a hit. to 1d4 averages to 2.5 damage a hit.Twiggy wrote:mining wrote:1d4 averages to 5 damage a hit.

I added them all because thats the way you find the average roll. Even chance of a 1,2,3,4. Thus, 1+2+3+4 = 10, 10/4 =2.5.

ahhh, i gotcha. ok i get it now. yeah that sucks. maybe if it was an added 4 damage a hit it would be worth it. and tep, I did not know that o.o

Re: Thundering Rage, Massive Criticals Feat
Someone please tell me, who in their right mind would WILLINGLY go change their weapon so they they LOOSE massive criticals. Just so they could burn another feat? Hell i'm usually struggling to get all the feats i want in my builds already. Why on earth would i willingly screw myself like that?Amoenotep wrote:we have an anvil that changes weapons
Thats crazy. Leave the weapons like they are now. Dev crit = disabled. Overwhelming Crit = Pointless with Massive Criticals on weapons, and thats a good thing!! Stop worrying over rediculous things like this.
And Thundering rage?
Pure barbs already get Magical damage when they rage (Thank you for that). Why take thundering?
Not a bad idea, but i just don't see barbs doing divine damage when they rage, that just doesn't make much sense to me, from the "RP" perspective or any other. Then again, I guess barbs that do "magical" damage doesn't make much sense either... meh..If it was, say, 1d4 divine, posi or magic damage, then it'd be worth the feat.
Barbs don't get a whole lot of "good" feats anyhow so just stick to the basics. What the object of the build? Probably stay alive and kill [censored]. That means Epic DR. And since the pure class damage immunities were lowered you'll want epic dr to shrug off more damage like a good barbarian should

Just my thoughts anyhow..

LIES.
LIES and SLANDER!
All a barbarian does is not die and scream like a little girl at people to make them stop. Or at least thats how I always think of it

Re: Thundering Rage, Massive Criticals Feat
removing massive crits on weapons would actually make str based chars have a little bit of an advantage over idiot dex'rs that can do the same thing with more ac. which encourages diversity...which is a good thing.
barb dr wasn't lowered, divine immunity on barb dr was lowered.

Re: Thundering Rage, Massive Criticals Feat
Mining i believe you are forgeting about critical hits in that equation too.
I'd show the math for it but I don't really want my dork to show through.
