faction gaining idea

in an MMORPG called everquest i use to play they had a faction system
i found it pretty remarkable

If you killed certain members of 1 faction then you could gradualy gain acceptance by other factions, usualy factions who considered the 1st faction an enemy and thus be able to enter into their cities and such

this would work here on so many bases

to name 2

say you were fighting invaders into your city and u hit one of your guards which then made all the guards in the area attack, and instead of running you decided to defend urself only to find out that after all the guards were dead you were now KoS to your own faction (yes its happened to people)

well then if you were LA you could travel to menzo, which is the most hated enemy of LA and kill their guards and civilians and such and regain ur lost reputation with the LA faction thus making it possible for you to once more enter Neversummer

or say your a drow or a member of SL but for some reason you dont like the way SL runs OR u make alot of friends in LA and u wish to join LA

well kill SL guards and civilians and maybe even PC's enough and LA faction will finaly grant you admittance, then maybe all you have to do is go see the duke and become a citizen i dunno

also you could see how much mobs and such actualy liked you in EQ, there were their opinions of you such as hostile, dubious indifferent, etc

if there was some way of implementing something like this i think it would be good
help people to regain their faction who are now considered Avendelians

We've had discussions among the Dev team about implementing something like this. The hard part would be conceptual, it would be easy to implement (after all the faction reputation system is already in place). The problem is - with 7 factions who all hate each other, how does one distribute positive "karma"? If you're LA and start killing TC, does MA like you more? And since MA is allied with SL, do they like you more too? But if they're hated enemies....etc, etc.

So, it's just a matter of putting some time and thought into it, the former is something we're severly lacking :)

The faction gain should be coded so that only members already of the faction (or allied) can gain standing, and only by killing opposing factions (for the main factions anyway).

Otherwise you'll have to deal with what Joran said, AND enemy faction members just taking a stroll in your hometown and taunting you.

This way you can repair faction if you lose it, but the system cannot be exploited.

Now for monster factions, you can go crazy on those :D . Just make it so that Fey hate Goblins/Cat guys or whatever and when you kill a member of the opposing group you gain some faction with them, and lose more faction with the group you just attacked (+1/-2 bases).

You could also make faction quests for these mobs and the PCs will be caught in another type of faction war 8) .

This is kinda off subject but like u know in diablo when u kil someone online u get their ear to show u have killed them well i think when u kill someone from another faction there should be like a ring or somewhat of Dogtags that drop off the char to show that u ahve killed them this should be able to gain rep and maybe if u get enough u could earn some valuable item or weapon it sounds cool and make the game more interesting and something to look forward too just an opinion i think it would be rather cool to do that

I think Wolfens idea is great, have the player drop an item, but, I was wondering can it generate descriptions on the fly? I'm not sure if it's possible with the aurora engine, but I think that if such an item system were implemented, once dropped when examined it should say what class and what level the person you killed were, and what you were when you killed em, so that way if you kill a newb at lvl3 when your level 20, it'll be displayed on the item so you really wouldn't want to go around bragging about it :wink: .

Might be rather hard to get something like that to drop off every ones bodie when dead but i thought it might be fun and make the game more exciting to PK and Actually earn somthing out of it rather than just saying
"another one dead" u can bring it back to a NpC in town and trade em in for like these special gems and when u earn enpough of em u can trade em to the DM for some special item or weapon


What u think kereng? spice up this game a lil would be rather interesting to see how many people u can kill :lol:
well if the Dm's dont see this u guys can turn it into em just a lil suggestion

personaly i like this idea too
a reward system

maybe even the head, it shouldnt be too hard to generate a head in ur inventory everytime u respawn or get ressed or log on and when u die it should be possible for that head to drop, the hardest part to do would probably prevent the head or ear or whatever from dropping when killed by an npc, but it might be possible to code in something that knows when ur killed

it sure would add more fun in PVP and if ever the faction with is implemented or even some factions set bounties for certain players or even other players, u could have proof that you killed them to get the reward

what say you devs?

Now I hadn't thought of that, the potential for a bounty system would indeed be quite interesting, good idea Junksta, I 'm for it, what do the dev's have to say?
