dire boar ab kinda high?

Post by Remy »

someone brought up the rather high ab of a dire boar in shout today. to compare, i found that a CR 6 dire boar has an attack bonus of 15 while a CR 10 ogre hunter has an attack bonus of 10 on ogre pass "north".

CR is calculated by a number of factors, all of which mean truly nothing. It also fails to account for many other variables, I have before made a CR 1 chicken that took out Draco in old NS3. Using creature CR for the sole referance as to if something is rated for a player is much like saying you dont like pizza because you dont like anchovies.

I hope that helps a bit.

Yes, but the exp reward is based off of CR isn't it? So, your character who has a nastier fight on his hands with that dire boar is not going to be rewarded as much as he would for the ogre. Similarly that chicken that would slap down most characters would only be worth minimum exp if you managed to take it out. Or am I completely out to lunch here?

You have got about the hang of it. What would be nice is if Bioware would fix its CR calculations so it would read adjusted stats and abilities instead of base before things like creature skins, creature weapons, armor, weapons ect were added in.

But since they cant be bothered with the numerous glaring holes in the system that have been pointed out to them again and again I dont count on it anytime soon. Luckily we can rely on our devs to fix what the people who are actually paid to do screwed up on. There is however a limit before requiring a hak pak.

well, only had CR for something to compare. subjective stuff like observed difficulty during combat varies per class. if the difficulty of the dire boar versus the xp reward is appropriate given the state of the bioware engine, then ok.

Yeah, but boars irl are pretty beasty too. I actually think all animals, or at least all the cat types, lions, and bears(except maybe ancient dires, which i haven't run into yet) are too high on their cr, because they don't really have weapons, potions, or spells for the most part, yet they get a cr similar to creatures that do have that.
So i suggest giving all our nice panthers wifty sneak attack claws, and dmg reduction hide to bears :)
