Upcoming Quest - Sunday, 11/6

Post by Yonwe »

Foolish mortals!

Today, you spurned the urgings of Lolth, the Spider Queen, to slay the unrighteous inhabitants of the surface! You have earned her wrath!

The last chance you have to redeem yourselves shall be at 10pm central, on 11/6; meet in the free city of Avendell, in the guise of a mortal being between 15th and 30th level, that the cities of the surfacers shall be destroyed!

So it is spoken, under the auspices of Yonwe, TBD, and Kala; so shall it be done!

Sure would be nice to actually see this "evil" ... so far, all I have come across are rumors of such, though, said rumors are hardly convincing ...
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

I was a bit confused by the shouts... attacking Melencia is fine, but what about LA? or Sleeth? that would conflict with all of my 25+ characters...

hmm

But attacking Melencia would also conflict with others factions, so you just need to decide if you're loyal to your faction who has helped you when you first got to this danmed world, or an Ad-Hoc coalition going against your own home

You don't need to be so serious about consequences of a quest; stuff like this is meant to be fun on its own and for its own sake. You can bring anyone you want to it, since we can restore faction alliance afterwards; I'd say it's more important to have the fun when you can have it!

Well, I must say I was nearly on the virge of denouncing any kind of DM quest until NS4 is out of beta and put the effort into DEV instead ..but.. after participating in this event (with 7 others including a total of 3 from the Legendary Bretheren of which I am a part) I think the occasional, simple but fun event like this could really keep the interest up and build up a stable player base.

Thanks to the DMs for the fun and experience, and good job Melencia defenders, I'm really, truly sorry about the respawn-camping, but we were kind of led into a catch-22 situation...

...which kind of makes me think about a poll/thread i should start about revamping the faction-invasion/conquering thing :) but i digress.

I had a blast. Got me some levels and had some fun. But, the most important thing to me was that Lolth fixed it so that I was once again in Avendell's good graces. Not sure how I fell out of their favour. But, it happened.

For a little rundown of what all happened for those that missed it...

We began in Avendell between the smithy and clothing store and were first talking to a Minion of Lolth. Then Lolth graced us with her presence. This was the first time I'd actually seen Lolth with a spider's body. Before I had seen her appear as simply a drow. Our party was not exceptionally well balanced, however. Mostly spellslingers and sword arms. Not a cleric in sight. But, we made do.

Of course two members of The Circle saw us gathering and warned us that they'd be waiting for us as they defended their faction.

When we were given the orders to march we left Avendell and were quickly notified that Nature had turned against us to protect The Circle. Ancient Dire Bears greeted us (and by that I mean swarmed and tried to tear us apart) as we left Avendell.

All along the way we set upon by a great host of creatures from Elder Earth Elementals, Wood Spirits, Forest Walkers, Amazons, Trolls... As well as the usual dangers of goblins, bugbears, rakshasa, nymphs, and fey creatures.

The first attempt to take Melencia was rather bloody. Our first ranks went in and were swamped by grease, storm of vengeance, stonehold, etc. Myself, I lasted a few rounds before I was dead. The mages following after fared a little better, but then the very fabric of the world seemed to unravel. Time ground to a halt. My very consciousness was thrown out of Aetheria.

Minutes later my soul found it's way back to my body and the carnage was gone. Slowly the fabric of the universe came back together and other lost souls once again found their bodies.

We were raised and set forth to attack again. This next attack fared better. Though, it was still a meat grinder. Slowly we beat back the defenders of Melencia and thinned their numbers. The Forest Walkers stayed dead, but the heroes of Melencia harried us repeatedly.

After clearing the main area of Melencia we advanced on the main hall. It took three attempts to break through the defenses. One must wonder how these tree huggers can call a storm of acid and lightning while in doors. Our final charge was aimed at bypassing the defenses in the doorway and striking deep into the building.

Some unlucky souls that were bound there were repeatedly slain, but such is life... Once we had pillaged the hall and slain all the inhabitants, Lolth one again appeared. Sensing we had all bound our souls in Avendell, she slew us to hasten our return to Avendell.

All in all, it was a fun night. Let us hope that another such invasion is planned in the near future.

Thank you everyone for your words of appreciation! See, it's good reactions like this that make quests happen.

And please, everyone give many thanks to TBD as well; this was definitely a team effort!
