Faction Guards

Post by Alexiagold »

This is something I encountered, faction guards seem a tad weak. I managed to single handedly wipe out the entire NC guards with a level 14 sorc. I only died after a God for the NC intervened and killed me.

Anyway I can give more details if someone is interested (although enough DMs watched me, so I think you guys know what to do to make the guards a tad more dangerous, but a lot more to me :)).

PS I love this module!!!!

Oh, PS killing the guards was very very good exp and awsome drops  . I made a deal with the NC Gods to camp the guards in the city in exchange for not killing any NC players :) he he. Made level 15, almost 16 in like an hour from barely 14. (The God spawned like 30 guards on me, to try and kill me the first time, but they all died!!! Before the dang God killed me).

I would have to agree that the Guards would have to be beefed up quite a bit.

If I were a 14th level Sorc, I'd just throw up Acid Sheath (5th Level Spell), Elemental Shield (5), Death Armor (2), a Stone Skin (4) or Greater Stone Skin (6), and grab a lot of heal paks to take out any group of mobs that is dumb enough to melee against me without dispelling. Even the toughest melee-types would fall to that (I'm guessing that none of us encountered any mobs that had +5 or better weapons). Cheesy? Yes. An Exploit vs. the AI? Maybe. I guess the melee-guards and mobs are really doing what they know how to do...hack at an enemy mage so they really wouldn't know any better. At any rate, for those who didn't know that tactic, there you go. Just accelerating the process...it would only take a matter of weeks, maybe days to figure that one out. With this downtime, maybe something can be done to change this. And, after all, this is a BETA.

Were there any Archer Guards? Or a Mage or Paly Captain? Didn't see any Cleric guards either...from what I saw (in the faction where I played that is), there were just standard melee-fighter types as guards. Even if the guards had Knockdown added into their list of abilities, they would be that much tougher.

The Forest Walkers around Melencia had longbows.

They also had melee weapons.

One, however, wasn't smart enough to avoid getting killed by a summoned Bebelith Demon. He just stood there while it pounded on him. ;)

drow guards are strangely weak ;p I lured one gnoll raider to 3 drow npc guards and they all died against him!!! It wasn't a nice sight when he chased me of course ;p Btw, can there be a way for drow clerics to guard outside boundaries as well? the drow guards could use the healing when fighting gnolls, dire bears, etc :)

While I didn't agree with Alexiagold camping all the level 2-5 players at level 14 a Good point is brought up!

30 Guards by a Level 14 !!!

Wow that means to loot a faction all you need is 1 maybe 2 players to wipe out everything before it can respawn. It seems that the faction's home town so to speak should be like the crown jewel of conquests. So if we are restricted to level 20 for right now they should be at least level 20. At least that way you won't have one or two characters pummelng a faction to it's knees.

Last Note for Alexiagold, Like I said I don't agree with what you did but I must admit you know how to build a character......Thought thats not good for me being in NC

Maybe Melencia stronghold was "finished" last, as it looks horrible - how long did the design take - half an hour? I was really looking forward to plaing in the circle and i hope it's some temporary version.

Anway, the guards in melencia are just plain silly. No true seeing on them allowes other faction parties to raid the bosses without fighting anyone on the way. Some defence.

Another thing is - it's way to easy to get to the gates of anoter faction stronghold. There should really be a lot more guards of mixed types, all of them upgraded for XY lvls.

Um you do realize that see invis is not the only way to actually see invisible players right? I ran through melencia, and that was a near death experience, those rangers can sense me moving along from miles away. As far as "unfinished" maybe you don't like the looks, and maybe this is a beta which means the developers aren't done, but either way, way to show support. Seriously, I only saw part of it as I was fleeing in terror, but it looked cool to me.

I guess some things never change. Throw in some criticism and in no time here come the defenders of faith..

they I've waited over a year for NS4, i'm here, and that's quite a support. But if i think something is wrong, i'll say it. No need for the "plz dont get me wrong" intro.

Melencia looks pale to say the least. The boss rooms are miniature tents, with only the bear/boar and maybe 1-2 more guys in there. Seriously, i love playing ranger/druid chars, and i've seen so many better looking forest type maps. If my opinion represents the minority - so be it.

I dont know how the guards saw you if you were invisible, but if have a way, only for the better.

Spot and or listen let you see invisble.

You said
Maybe Melencia stronghold was "finished" last, as it looks horrible - how long did the design take - half an hour?
And
Anway, the guards in melencia are just plain silly.
Now maybe, just maybe you think this is a nice way to suggest you are desiring better looking town/area/stronghold. However you, 1 fail to state HOW it could be made better, 2 WHAT is wrong with it that makes you dislike it, 3 you make your useless criticisms in a very very impolite fashion, I mean how else am I to take your 1st sentance?

Perhaps you feel I am a "loyal fan boy" who will blindly defend NS4 BETA (notice it says beta? means if you make a nice suggestion things may change...). I love NS4, but I make lots of suggestions about balance as that's my area of expertise. You seem to have a knack for forested regions, perhaps you could write a small exposee on how to improve them instead of simply saying, "this sucks how long that take you 30 minutes?"

Heck maybe you could open up Aurora and build the melencia of your dreams, and export it to a deveolper, showing that yours looks cooler and maybe even get your version implemented with a credit to you?

Is there a way to improve your invis DC or is it set?

get a higher key ability score, take the spell focus feat in illusion, cast improved invis instead. thats about it. too bad there isnt a heighten spell feat in NWN.

Wrong direction...NPCs don't "look" for you while you're invisible :)
