unless their aura also debuffs you with damage vulnerability as barb rage does. i think ragnar has terrifying rage now.

I'll look into this... what's the DC btw? There's a chance some of the dorfs are using the same aura that Celestia's Lantern Archons are using... in which case things may have been modified by me.

DC 36 will save on the elite guards new aura, its certainly not the aura they used to have. From what i can tell it appears to only be the female ones with the hammers and shields that mords you. The ones with the great axes have the same old aura that everyone saves vs lol.

Hope this helps something is certainly going on.

I know this is an old thread. But this seems to still happen. Its not just the taunt. And it seems to be something that doesn't show on the character sheet. Maybe the combination of the taunt and something else. There is something though cause if you can out last them for like 1 or 2 minutes the phenomenon seems to go away and they are managable.

The other odd thing is that it doesn't seem to be linked by a certain NPC (in my opinion) but the whole mob. The regular Dwarf Guards are wrecking things too. You'll come across mobs that seem to be like the "old days" then get a spawn of what looks to be the same mob but they'll roll crit after crit. To the point of a Cleric can't get resurrection off due to not making concentration checks vs damage of 2 or 400 hundred.

Additionally, (like most things) the problem is greater when there are more of them. 1vs2 should be the same difficulty as 2v4 or 3v6 but it seems if I'm 1vs 2 its fine. But 5 vs 6 and we're smashed and scrambling almost immediately.

Well bottom line is I'm not going there anymore. The xp in dwarf home used to be low but tolerated because there was never a shortage of them. If you had a decent party you could kill them quickly. If you had a small party then you could go slower and still gain decent xp. Now, you work two mobs then get pounded and have to scramble for 5 minutes. Then work two and scramble. Plus, there is no gear there of any value. The only piece I've liked were Cherry's Robes and I haven't seen them drop in ages. I wouldn't know though because the last two times I've stepped in Rangar's room its was face on the floor for the whole party. Before we kill even one guard. Both times there were like 7 or 8 of us. Once I tried to use my 40 cleric to raise some of us and wound up respawning that toon too.

I hate dorfs soo much I'm going to delete my RK builds and intentionally lose faction!! <-- well maybe don't hate them that much.

On the other hand, (rant concluded), Thanks for all the new areas that give us options!! I think I'll try HOK. Its really cool.

Everytime (except maybe once) that I was disarmed in HoK my weapon dropped on ground. HoK is real nice, but the problem I see is that the bosses are WAY overpowered for their gear (that Ive seen them drop). The mino boss drops an ammy +6 AC vs bludg, +5 normal AC, +4 will saves. . . and when you get thrown into his room (hes a cleric) and theres a lexicon there that does 60-120 magical damage on a pulse attack every 2-3 rounds things turn ugly . . . thats not even considering if a bard spawned in there or a few tricksters. The sphinx boss I dont remember what he dropped because I wasnt even gonna roll on it because it was so bad, was a belt of some sort I believe. HoK is good for running up and down the first three maps, regular mobs A+ in my book. . . bosses D- (except for Archmage who has a cool staff). The map down low just brings you to a maze that takes 20 or so minutes to get past and therefor wastes 20 minutes of would be xp time.

The stats are roughly the exact same as Dwarf Home for whatever its worth... some creatures are crit immune, but the crit immune creatures don't heal.

Oh, well incase I didnt get that off right, I love HoK for its regular mobs. Prime xp and fun to fight. The bosses I think are a lil on the lame side for drops, compare Ragnar equipment (all +6) with the HoK bosses and archmage is only equivalent in his staff. Cheery equipment is the same +6 stuff too.

So my AC is 67 and I've noticed that I'm being taunted some and it drops to 61 just like you'd expect. And I Understand that you can't go too far with 61 AC. And is 6 AC the fine edge between everything rolling back to back to back crits on everyone in the party? My cleric has 57 AC which drops to 51 when taunted. So if it was just an AC issue wouldn't the crits be rolling on him in every mob? Last point, even if I had ZERO AC wouldn't they only roll crits 1 out of 5 rolls on average? (maybe its just the perception)

This is on the character sheet of course. When the issue rolls up there "ain't no time fo checkin' the battle log." I'm wondering if it is stacking but not showing on the character sheet and it seemed like in the past they didn't taunt at all.

Further. Once I did get a chance to check the battle log for the Taunt Check. One character I have has 30 ranks in Concentration and +9 ability bonus which should put me at 39 (can't remember if I tried with rings or not). 1. It seemed that I got Taunted all the time so I wanted to see the check. Are they hidden or not being rolled? I didn't ever find a single one. 2. Is their Taunt Skill that high? Would Epic Taunt apply if they had it? Maybe I should rethink if 30 ranks is enough?

Thanks Linux for trying. I'll be happy to help test it if you need.

As for HOK, I been there just enough to know that I like it. Its really creative from a design stand point. The maze is a pain but fun the first time. I tried to map it and gave up. I got stuck and couldn't even get back the way I came. The trip I went was with 40 lvl toon just for exploring and was getting pretty good xp then. I suppose I can try it at 34. - /S lvl 34 lfg to HOK. YO!

Yes Yes Tep. Your plan has been very successful. Dwarfs can get lonely for all I care. hehe. I wouldn't complain if it was hard. I love Celestia. Moletec is Stupid tough now but that's what makes it fun. This seems broken and changed. If its changed then the CR could stand a look. Cuz for this kind of a mess the xp ain't worth it. (prolly find me trying again in a week. lol)

As for Aura and Taunt, I've only seen my AC drop by 6. I see the taunt Icon and the corresponding drop of 6. Also, I made edits above. I haven't been able to find taunt checks or aura checks. :? Course I don't claim to be good at reading battle logs. I understand them, just can't keep up with them. So when I'm dead and the dwarfs are still swinging at the rest of the party I lose them. Again I'll be happy to help test. Let me know when.
