fricebottle, explore your world more. the catacombs of menzo are easy lvls 5-9...orcs also if you head into the underdark. i am not talking about how easy it is to get to avendell though. i'm talking about rangers for MA...an exploring class that can be both good and evil. this class would fit into the world of shadows and magic that is Garagoth, especially since the city itself is far from the rest of the world and very isolated. don't metion ferry's cuz the least you will pay for a good trip is going to be 20k and no "real" noob is going to have that cash.

You're probalby right, I'm not best educated about the SL areas. I've only had one drow, he was a while ago and I only bothered to level him up to level 5 because I like halflings too much. When I got him on the surface the Evenshire Guards attacked him, so I dumped him. Most of what I learned about the underdark was from my level 31 who went in there once for the heck of it, I was in there for like 3 hours RL (lost, but I remember the areas) and popped out near Garagoth.

hehe, when the mod first opened i spent a month trying to find my way out of the mazes....of course i found 4 ways onto the ns servers inside the first week and was KOS for the GoN when they were on. funny how my login was recognized instantly and shouts across the server went out of how there was an intruder in the midst of ns ppl. man those guys came in packs to kill.

There's a few secret doors and a locked door you may wish to learn about. Menzo and NS City are practically on top of each other.

It took me maybe two months to learn most of the map. Of course at the time, there was that thing with the 2 servers and the broken transitions, so that made learning some of the more remote areas more difficult.

If you're gonna do something, why do it piecemeal?

There's at least four reasons off the top of my head:

1: LA is supposed to be the only totally unrestricted faction (well, AO is unrerstricted too, but that's a different issue). The class/race/alignment restrictions is a balancing feature in exchange for having a unique PrC and an allied faction.

2: Although rangers are now unrestricted in terms of alignemnt, the class used to be restricted to good alignment only. This is probably reflected in rangers being disallowed to the evil factions.

3: Ranger class abilities are connected to some degree to wilderness settings. SL is based in subterranean ares, and so isn't one of the best venues for a ranger anyway.

4: Perhaps crafting plays some part. Since both NC and TC have poor access to Arcane crafting without wizards, it may be a balance here was well to lessen MA and SL's access to fletching by disallowing rangers (though MA can still be achieve with AA levels).

Death Dealer1 wrote:ok......how bout rangers in MA? thats a lot of territory to cover on foot with many perils....but no rangers to explore it, just mages and rogues. which by the way, why put the most formidable opponent for a low lvl rogue and mage one of the first things they have to fight. i mean come one....everyone else gets cheese and MA has to fight formians which have a higher SR(kills low lvl mages) and its immune to sneaks(no good for those rogues). ever think about that or was it planned to keep them more in check?
That was kind of the point - they're able to survive so close to Garagoth because of those properties you mentioned. Think of it as acquired resitance or magical evolution ;)
but a human in SL? Or other race?
Part of the backstory. Drow had to reach out or face annihilation. Seems like they made the right choice, from what I can tell on the servers :-)

with the new additions of classes and some of the restrictions lifted...alot of these argumens aren't very good anymore. now some of the weaker factions can have very impressive builds to work with.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.

And let's hope people actually start playing those factions on a regular basis. I for one am getting tired of the constant battles between LA and SL with AO occasionally dropping by. I want to do more than just spend a good chunk of time in pvp, and it would be good if the outlying areas actually got some action.

SL doesnt need rangers... last thing we need is 30 people named Drizzit running around on the server...

Would there be a way for MA to find another melee based class though? Not many of the regular classes make sense, perhaps some kind or new restrictions set to allow MA 2 prestige classes (after some kind of ridiculous quest) as MA would be able to do experiments and research into finding 'more power'. And only allow the quest to open up certain extra prestige classes (weapon master, for example, wouldnt make sense; owever Arcane Archer would fit into the magic saturated theme of MA)

All the n00bz running around named Legolas were bad enough... gawd that so sad...

I'd have to say no to the 2 PrC for MA...

Though I could see MA recruiting lesser beings from various nearby barbaric sociteies as cannon fodder... Barbarian for MA anyone? 8)

Barbarian makes sense, especially if it's limited to half-orcs...
