Nerfing of Clerics

Clerics are supposed to be the holy mages.....

Mabey if u were to beef up there damage spells then they would more apt to not tank ....

And if u want a holy tank go pali.....

I too agree that it was an overdue change. Clerics could stack a whole bunch of the buffs plus several Undeaths before and boost AB and AC up to around 70. Right before the wipe it seemed every other character made was a cleric. Heck even the cleric I made way back around the time I first started playing here that had a lot weaknesses, blind spots and suboptimal choices could hold his own in melee combat as well as a well build fighter. Clerics are supposed to be decent combatants, but not better warriors than fighters.

So if a level 25 cleric with cleric buffs fought a 25 fighter with fighter buffs, who should win? The magic of the cleric would in effect boost its fighting abilities to that of a fighter temporarily (or maybe even beyond). Throw in other spells and the cleric will probably win. But, the thought is that the fighter *always* has those skills, while a cleric's will fade away and need to be recast.
Practically, this does not happen. A cleric will rest as soon as needed, and re-buff. So, without unholy nerfing, for NWN purposes, clerics will always be better than fighters.

a fully quicked cleric will still have no problem functioning on his own....it just might take a bit longer to hack down tougher spawns b/c of the AB cutback from the spells which no longer stack ---- its more of a pain to level up b/c you feel the 5-6ab decrease BUT in the long run, its not that big of an issue.

I applaud the changes to cleric!!! Well done devs! I've been lobbying for these changes (see my alter ego Roco Bottombutts' posts...) for a long time even though it would've handicapped my uber cleric build.

Now, if only we can convince the devs to make Hellball not knockdown the caster...

The max cutback in AB so far is only 4, and that's with Aura V( being the most powerful AB/Generic buff clerics have now) up and running with Divine Power which only lasts 1 Turn, and Divine Favor, which had the max AB scaled back to +3.
Serving NS4 proper as Lathander and Sleeth as Bahamut.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

Also I wouldn't consider the spells outright nerfs, as several of them were caster only spells that affect groups now, and there is bonus damage and regeneration on these spells, in some cases these effects weren't part of the spells' normal functions either.

Yes, it makes the cleric less self-oriented and more party-oriented like that they should be.

For mabey the first 3 minutes the cleric should have the edge .....

But as soon as the buffs go away the fighter shouold destroy him ..... hands down.

if the cleric is build right, it should win any duel in 3 minutes, otherwise you deserve to die

Not having any problems with my new cleric. Still kick'n it. Mind you not as strong as previous but still a very strong class. Even soloing he's not doin to shabby. You can always buff a summons. Still PunK'n.
