Faction IRC Channels (this thread on spamwatch)
And to help in that I have run across a MAJOR bug in one of the IRC client that some use. I'm not sure what all O/S's this will effect but if you are running Trillian with XP Pro and your computer randomly hardlocks, even if you are AFK. Its Trillian causing it.
I had been having the problem for awhile and never had figured out what was going on, even after a full system wipe. One day the other week I was getting IM'd to death so I shut trillian off and never bothered to turn it back on. Eight days later I looked and noticed it was off (I never shut down) so I fired it up again. 30 minutes later, hard locked.
After a couple of days of random testing, and Trillian being the only variable that my favorite IM software was the cause of the problem. I can only assume that this bug will extend to XP home and 2000 as well. So If your comp is locking up and you run Trillian, you may want to look elsewhere.
Personally I am now using x-chat for IRC and Gaim for my IM interface.

i have a question were you runnign the pro version of trillian or the freebie that they havent done any real coding on for over a year whihc they are now changing as they feel enough has been done on the proversion at revision 2.012TGPO wrote:And to help in that I have run across a MAJOR bug in one of the IRC client that some use. i have never had XP pro hard lock on me while running trillian and nwn at the same time but i do know this some thing on my pc has a large memory leak and after so long of constant running depends what i do it uses up all my memory and my pc slows down
I have a Radeon XP 9600 with 512 mem on Win2k... I tried putting nwn in windows mode... ive searched everywhere online to fix the alt+tab bug for my pc.. but nothing has worked yet.. so i dont know what anyone can suggest, but to see whats going on in an mirc chat room without crashing my whole pc, i have to get out of nwn then get back in..
To answer its just the freebie of Trillian I was using. And windowed mode makes no difference to the hard lock issue, it happened in both. However windowed mode would help you figure out where you were bloating up at. Ctrl|Alt|Del and select processes, it should jump right out at you.
For many of you I see the issue of Alt|Tabbing is causing the problem, try adding the following line to your NWN.ini :
AllowwindowedMode=1
Place that under the line that reads
FullScreen=1
then use Alt|Enter to switch back and forth between windowed and full screen. This may mess with your gamma settings but a quick click on Video Settings while in game brings the settings right back up. This should let you run IRC and NWN at the same time without crashing you out.

Have you tried the latest drivers?ml07oz wrote:I have a Radeon XP 9600 with 512 mem on Win2k... And maybe look up the agp bus drivers for your mobo.
Also try and run your game and your desktop at the same settings.
I usually run my desktop at 1600x1200x85hz, but since I started playing nwn again I have dropped it to my gaming res for nwn which is 1280x960x85hzx32bit.
I notice my monitor flickering around as much and the screen switching faster since switching to the same res for gaming and desktop.
Hopefully this info will help you use the irc chat while gaming at the same tme.

Also for those of you that chat on other IRC servers. There is a command to connect to multiple IRC servers with only one mIRC program running. The command is:
/server -m (server name)
In neversummer's case it would look like this.
/server -m irc.gamesurge.com
then just type /j #neversummer
you can have different nicks on the different servers. But being in multiple rooms can get a bit crowded and confusing. Hope people can use this as well.
