multiclassing is supposed to make characters more versatile, but not more powerful.

for example, my sorc38/pally1/rogue1 is meant to be versatile. i gave up 2 sorceror levels in order to gain better defense against knockdown, better saves, better ac, even +8 HP! however, this improved defense doesnt give me more power as a spellcaster.

What is more powerfull?

40th level sorc?

or 39th level sorc with +10 on his saves?


I would have to say 39 sorc with +10 saves. Simple logic. Your going to survive longer cause you have better defense. That allows you to cast more spells and kill/damage more. Making you more powerfull. Increasing your spell casting ability by allowing you to cast more spells over time.

Kelin, i have always played an archer with a bow. But since archers are nerfed to the oblivion, i have to go with a mage build. I also have melee build ready and tested for NS4.

Thanos, lvl 40 sorceror is more powerful (just by a little bit), but lvl 38/1/1 sorceror will last much longer

However, virtually all spell effects see negligeable improvement from sorc 38-sorc 40. I believe 38 will earn you your last epic sorc feat as well, meaning there is very little motivation (besides RP purity, I suppose) to take 2 more sorc levels rather than grabbing 1 monk/1 pally and getting +x to saves and evasion (two things which go quite well together).

There are better build for powergamer sorcs.
And anyway multiclasses sorcs aren't the topic of this thread.
I think that there should be class/level restricted items for fighters.
