I'm not a scripting expert, but how about this. There must be something in place that says once you reach 0 hp you're dead, so scripts can be related to your hp. How about making a script that plays on shapechanging abilities/spells that fires once you reach say 33% max hp and unshifts you?
Also, I'm sure people have noticed if you have an emote quickslotted it greys out during rest, so functions can be disabled at certain times via scripting. So have the above script also disable shifting ability if your below 33% hp.
I think it would give a neat (here comes the cheese) Incredible Hulk effect to shifters. Like when they beat and beat and beat on the Hulk until he's so weak he turns back into Banner.
this idea might actually seem like it could work however .... there should be some sort of 1-3 seconed of invunerability time then for the shifter to be able to rergain health and reshift...
Ive deshifted with my druid before and usually if u deshift in combat its bad news for the shifter.....

This seems like a great solution to me as well. But perhaps less HP, more like 15-25% left, at which point you might as well be dead anyhow. If you unshift, you had better run. But again...not sure about the scripting on such a possiblity.
or rather than granting temporary hit points (if that causes problems on death), grant more straight con bonuses and dont merge con item buffs.
so if you die you're dead and there's no temporary hit point bugs, or you-died-and-now-your-con-is-minus-20 or whatever. make the shifted shapes good enough that it makes up for not merging equipment.
Having the Shifter lose their shape and revert back to their "weaker" state with a momentary "Weapon Ineffective" kind of effect would be good and also have a neat result. The short delay of invulnerability is there so they aren't hosed as they shift back.
I reckon a low enough hp level would need to trigger it so its not going off all the time when you get critted for 200+ so maybe 100 hp or 25%??
Edit: The above example of course is for epic chars with heaps of hp. For low level druids I would say a low percentage like Ajantis said 15-25%

100 would be cool but 25% can be a bit much considering i have seen some shifting dragons go beyond 1k hp.
Agreed Yoda it might need some scripting if possible to determine the level of the toon and whether at some cut-off point it changes from a percentage to a fixed number like 100hp.

I don't know if someone has posted this yet (this thread reached 3 pages fast and I don't have time to catch up with all that), but I believe the shifter crash just may have had something to do with NS4's bleeding script. Disabling that for Shifters might provide a temporary solution, but I'm not sure if its been tried already or not.
