i can tell you what someone is wearing by the shape patterns on their clothing. no matter how you die it, the patterns are always the same ;)

Yeah well there isn't always a lot of time to see that. And some items are identically skinned.

If they're dead and laying on the ground, you have plenty of time to examine their clothing, if that's why you're on NS4. My simple rule of thumb - if they kill me, they were too high, if they don't, they weren't.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

I ran into another frustration with no list yesterday, a party-wipe.

I realize it's meta-gaming, but common practice when several people die is a rescue party. I mean, who hasn't walked into a room with a much larger than usual spawn and watched party members die one after another. I play a toon with HiPS, so sometimes I'm able to run and hide and attempt to rescue my companions... except that if a group of monsters is big enough to take all of us down, the usual procedure is for everyone to log out and back in, so that our corpses aren't guarded by every baddie on the screen. Problem is, without the login list, there's no way to tell if every-one's logged out yet, so you can end up trying it over and over with one person logging out right as others login.

Again, it's admittedly meta-gaming, but a certain amount of that needs to go on to overcome the restrictions of a video game medium. In PnP you could just make a corpse invisible for a rescue.

As for the threat level indicator, I have a question. Is it possible to include the threat level based off a roll? When I run a PnP game, I roll a check (perception in gurps, and a judgement-call skill in DnD) to see if the characters have some idea how capable their opponent looks. It would be really cool if you looked at a monster, and based on your lore or something you get a guess as to his power-level.

Also if you choose to use Gamespy (which is dodgy at best) the Buddies function can let you know where your friends are if you know their logins, that said...the reliability of the buddies list??? (also dodgy) IMHO

I like party wipes - I'm just as good as everybody else if we're all dead. :)

When was that? I'm trying to decide if I'm in that pile-o-bodies.

Well, Tiamat Blackguards can smite for over 1000 damage consistently, so even if Celestia monsters can hit for more, it doesn't matter because it's a 1-shot kill in either case.

Abe stated "Since there are no physical changes that come with leveling up, the "log in" information was an ample substitute. It was information that was provided to the player that the player would ideally be able to surmise by looking at the actual character (but he can't due to the game's limitations)"

Armor is different; anyone is able to tell by the color and shapes of armor worn or shield/ wpn wielded to have idea what lvl and even class your up against. Kama with electricity visual affect, storm kama, which is a lvl 20 item so that person is lvl 20 or better.

Yes dye packs will make identifying an item more difficult; espcially with robes. However not so with heavy armors. Colors are not the only way to tell armors apart. The general overall appearance is another clue. Ragnar's plate looks different from any IA plate (even those were created with different styles). Yes once a dye pack is used it is more difficult to tell them apart. But do you really need to know. If you using a longsword and someone has a clue your coming...you can bet they will have on their slash armor and shield ready.

As far as removing, yes it protects builds from being copied, as well as provides better chance in relic raid. The hard core pvper's will know who is using what example most ppl know my Netya'nis is a druid/dragon. Once you fight someone you'll have general idea what build your up against next time, just by paying attention to what they did. Did they cast, did they hips, did they use cleric or arcane spell. You'll remember especially if that toon is used regularly.

If it is hard to remember, start a thread documenting what you observed about your enemies builds in a faction thread. Sort of most wanted list: Daeron Most Wanted: so and so <insert name> raided this day observed to be dexer, SD build using <type> wpn. Or <insert name> attach Melencia: now know to be wizard (with or without hips).

Yes this change favors those that visit the realm more, but what is wrong with that. Also, the changes promotes more role play as everyone will not know others builds right off.

I do not see the reason for alarm about this change. If you want to know where your friends are...then add them to the friends list. Before logging to any server, check that screen in gamespy to see where your friends loggins are log in at (assuming that option is turned on by said friend).

Nothing is as easy as it looks.
Everything takes longer than you expect.
And if anything can go wrong,
It will, at the worst possible moment.
