Counterspelling while doing anything else means wrath of tep
Ok, I've seen people argue that counterspelling while at the same time engaged in combat is allowed by DMs, and I've heard other people argue that DMs consider it an engine exploit. What do the DMs say about this issue please?

Re: Counterspelling in melee
Yeah, it is an exploit since it is not intended to happen by the nwn engine.
We as players should keep in mind that the bug is pretty easy to trigger accidentally. I'm not sure if I should say exactly how it happens, but it is a common combat situation for certain types of caster builds. I've done it on accident many times, especially back before I knew exactly how it was happening. I'll always try to disengage immediately to get myself out of counterspelling mode. I think it is fair to ask the same of others should the situation come up.

Re: Counterspelling in melee
Awesome thanks guys. I was all but 100% sure of this, but a noobie tried using it on me last night(and died horribly 3 times in a row, complete with tells sent to me afterwards saying I wasn't a good player lol) and tried telling me that mining told him it was ok to fight and counterspell at the same time when I called him out in shout. He was acting like me calling him out for cheating was harassment of a player. Ah I love noobies, especially the ones who die and tell me I'm not a good player lol:o)
I'll keep names off the forums about this, but if mining wants to know the name of the person who's been lying about what he says about the rules of NS4, then I'll gladly tell him. Enjoy guys thanks again!

Re: Counterspelling in melee
I've never said counterspelling is ok in melee.

"Any action other than counterspelling, such as an (involuntary) attack of opportunity, will end this mode. "* NSJava is now known as yawn
<yawn> i suggest you people to study this : http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Counterspell
<yawn> And as you commonly known by most DMS around servers, Counterspell is a combat mode. and : A combat mode is a toggled state that a character maintains in combat.
<yawn> bye bye
<-- yawn has quit (Quit)
Dear yawn,
If you want to cite evidence in your favour, ensure that the evidence is indeed in your favour.
However, based on the simple fact that we do not give a damn about the bio game or the NWNwiki, you're wrong, and it doesn't matter if the wiki agrees or disagrees with you on this matter.
If you want to start up a debate on the merits of allowing counterspelling in combat (clearly a bioware bug based on the fact that 1) It doesn't agree with the documentation in e.g. the manual, and 2) it doesn't occur except under specific circumstances), then feel free to do so.
Love,
Mining.
p.s.
No.

"You really shouldn't be doing anything else while counterspelling."
The fact that this message doesn't show consistently indicates that it's bugged, as well as how counterspelling is 'supposed' to work.

I only get that message if I try to cast while counterspelling (wanting to end the counterspelling mode, which casting should do). Ive never seen that message when I was bugged into countering while attacking.Bargeld wrote:"You really shouldn't be doing anything else while counterspelling."

Re: Counterspelling in melee
That's because if we put a check on melee attacks it would probably kill the server with lag.Korr wrote:I only get that message if I try to cast while counterspelling (wanting to end the counterspelling mode, which casting should do). topic changed suckers
Well nwnx_events and should be able to keep track there. However there's yet another bug that can put you into counterspell without a hitting the counterspell button.

There's still ways to circumvent, but it would knock off at least 3 or 4 of the main cases.Lokey wrote:Well nwnx_events and should be able to keep track there. However there's yet another bug that can put you into counterspell without a hitting the counterspell button.

Because some people really don't seem to get this:
The counterspell bug is /really/ freaking hard to deal with (on our side), and its quite possible to trigger accidentally. It's generally fairly apparent if its an intentional trigger or not - and its generally fairly apparent when someone's trying to fix it.
