Newbie Observations

Post by scruffyspellslinger »

I've been playing for around 12 hours over three days now and here are a few observations.

I created a druid member of the circle, when I started Feon told me to buy stuff from Cell(something) in the south of the hall. There was no such person (killed by other players I think), so I had a level 1 character, 500 gold and no way to buy any starting equipment as all other traders in area charged too much, solved that by finding a pile of treasure left behind which let me buy some stuff at least.

I havbe seen over 3 days 6 players, 3 hostile who ran around Melcina(sp?) killing everything (all rated impossible, so I ran away from them on principal), 2 circle members, who I had a 3 line conversation with, usually hello, nice to see you, goodbye, and 1 okie member who I noticed running towards me as I killed goblins, then I died. When I respawned he was in the council hall and immeadiatly killed me again. He had to have been massively higher level than me as he could summon a hound Archon. (unfortunatly then I had a server time out while dead, relogged and lost 250 xp javascript:emoticon(''))

Running around today, I got a big pile of treasure, heavily encumbered, and walked back to the town from goblin caves only to find no mobs in town and no shopkeepers to sell stuff to (somebody killed them again?)

Which means as I can't afford to lose that much money (was around 5k gold when I managed to sell it), I had to log off wait a while then log back on to see if town had repopped.

I like what I've seen so far, which is very little with a level 5 druid, but I can honestly say it hasn't exactly been newbie friendly, and having to log off to wait for a respawn so you can sell stuff to shopkeepers is nothing but irritating.

I'll keep playing and see what else happens as I am enjoying it.

Do not be discouraged. Right now there are way too many epic characters and no where for them to go. What happens is...they raid towns. Melencia has little pc useage. If you want to interract more join up with NC and LA. Those two factions seem to have more people playing. Lately Ao has been busy too. Just keep lvling up untill you can find Avendell, SW to Melencia. It is the City of trade and "supposedly" no pvp or guard killing too. Someday there will be a wipe or epic areas wil be added...When this happens there will be no more uber dudes running round slaughtering everything they can cause no matter what they kill at that lvl they get the same exp. Kinda sad to see a 30th lvl guy slaughtering rats and such. It is sad because you know that person has no real life since they are killing off newbie hunting grounds and killing people they cross in "THEIR" grounds. Anyways....get getting stronger and fight back.

If you're not aware, the shops have hours of operation, so it is possible that you went in while they were closed and they don't spawn at that time but you can still craft stuff. No one is supposed to kill shopkeepers on fear of being banned, so I'm guessing it was just closed till 6am. Okies are a clan and tend to kill everyone who is not challenging to them, so keep clear of them for a few levels.

I tend to go kill in newb lands now that i have an epic char, but if i see a newb trying to level I'll just go raid his town instead :D

Welll, I am a n00b as well. I have never played any PvP before this game. In my experience I started this game out as a total PvP virgin. Got into the sewers pretty much right off the bat and around my third time through, player stopped and said hello, I admitted my newness to it all and stood there waiting to be killed. Instead he dropped a nice chunk of change for me, so in turn when I get some bank built up, I try to share the wealth. I have also had strangers save me from death and dismemberment, heal me and give me tips.

I have been PKed and actually was stunned, then laughed about it, it is a game and I have done a lot of dumb things to get myself killed, with many more to come, but I am learning and having fun. There are a lot of great people playing the game, some appear as "bad" but try talking to more people and don't expect a handout, you may get some suprises.

As I level a little more each time I remember how I felt as a complete noobie, and how great it was when someone gave me what to them was probably a small amount, but to me was a collosol help. As you level, share your knowledge with other new players and help them get on their feet. You will gain much more from that than any armor as a friend in need is a friend indeed :)

Excellent game, even love the PK's just part of the whole experience, and just enjoy watching some of the great fights from some of the higher chars.

Here here Leatherneck71.

I for one, when starting off as a newbie, eventually met a dood who was kind enough to give me some sick equipment.

As for PKing, its just fun - nothing to get upset over. Any XP u might lose u can always regain. I for one take pleasure in poking fun at my killers (hi Zenlio, Frum, Squiggles - you're such cute little puppies today!!) - making them so mad that they chase after me. hehe. Now I'm pretty good mates with 'em and adventure with em and stuff. Its cool.

And yeah, get to Avendell as soon as u can. Head South-West from Melancia (check out the MAP on this website to get the general over view of the land).

Just don't make the mistake of getting too close....all too often I appear the bad guy because a lowbie observes within a "colossal" range of the fight.

Scruffy, I hope that your still enjoying the game, has it been going any better for you?

Once again, after getting into trouble too far from home, a high level character saved me and pointed me in the correct direction. Thanks Squiggles, I was way out of my league.

TheBestDeception, to answer your question from the other night, things are still going great, the very rare pk, then someone unknowingly getting vengance for me. I learned not to run into the pretty clouds when trying to get by a big battle as well, a very valuable lesson.

This has got to be one of the best games, I am having a blast. Scruffy if you see me on line and I can help out in any way let me know, I will see what I can do, just don't go picking fights with any dragons :)

Thanks again to all that have helpped me out, sometimes it is going too fast for me to keep up with the names.

Currently I have a 12/4 druid/shifter who can solo all the way up the mountian trail, but not giant mountain. I am pausing him while I try out a few other classes. Creaed a dwarf intending to be a dwarven defender, and forgot the 13 dex required for dodge, so strating him again, and a lvl 2/2 monk/rogue in the Last Alliance (low hits, low AC but can sneak and will improve lots later levels).

Now I have seen what jobs are and what they give, they need to be in every faction ASAP.

It is fun seeing how different areas have been built eve if the monsters are the same at low levels (goblins circle, goblins + beetles LA, beetles RK).
