Not being able to see peoples/monsters relative level

Post by Zhorn »

I think this change is pretty interesting.

However it's going to mean LOTS of newbies/lowbies get PKed with zero warning "just in case" they're a threat.

As long as the DM's are happy for groups of lowbies to get Wailed to death then rock on!

I'm not sure if the server is pro-PK or anti-PK, but this change is pro-PK. I pretty sure it was MEANT to keep people from whining when they got killed by higher levels, but plenty of people can see other people's levels when they log in on the Player list, when their weapon is glowing (a property of only high level weapons), and in a few other cases (like a relic raid, we all know a level 5 isn't going to successfully raid a relic). I agree on the reasoning for this change, but I think its backfiring like as Zhorn stated above. Also, I might be paranoid, but I think leveling is kinda harder (especially for people new to this sever). Unless given help (not all ask for some, feeling embarrassed of making a fool of themselves), they might wander out to some place to high for them and get murdered.
    Sorry for the rant.

actually, what your talking about was discussed, and we decided the pros of doing it outweighed the cons. You should not know beforehand what level a player is, or a monster (if you havent noticed this affects them also). If we could shut off the levels before login I would vote o do it also.

One thing that I really miss is that I cannot see a negative effect caused by a player on a monster (or when it has worn off). One of the (few) things my archer was good at was called shots against a group of foes. Easy to manage when you can see the effect, impossible when you cannot see it.

youll cry with it on youll cry with it off..this is a PVP server . i fully encourage players to kill any player found red to them. when you come upon a group or a player or a mob..DECIDE what do i do......NO more checking ratings... decide on a action stick to it.

i pk low lvls high lvls i PK red.

Would it be possible to code so that differences of more than 8 levels or so would at least be visible? This would give hints as to very general status without giving away quite so much info.

TSS does not endorse random PKing.

i'm happy to see the amount of random pk'ing return. it was a long missed comodity of this server that almost died out with the cluster. it is the intention of this world that you destroy or hurt everyone not of like to you. be it LA vs SL or NC vs RK...doesn't matter. the factions were set up so that you could drive your enemies before you and crush them. so that you may here the lamentations of the women.

Man...that's one of my favorite movies.... :D

I am comtemplating a shift in Brethren policies toward pking since we can no longer determine whether a player is truely effortless or not. We had this policy in the past because cheap easy kills are unsporting, and usually not at all fun for the player on the other end. Probably I will switch to a more faction vs. faction oriented rule.

My one real problem with this is when I'm looking for a party, and when I'm in I can't tell everyones level unless I ask. And some people are liars, and soak up the xp...

so...drop party and kill them. the DD have had a long standing rule of red=dead. now that you can't tell lvls or abilities it makes it even more relevant.

the whole backdrop of this world is that it is at constant war. every faction fighting amongst themselvs and each other. the only way for a faction to survive was to find an ally. once this ally was chosen and looked to for help, then the war is to continue on a personal basis. it is the duty of every person on this server to kill anyone not of like to them that seems a threat. it is the RP thing to do on ns4.

it may seem out of char for a pally to hunt down the dislikes of the server, but if you look at it as others are spreading evil and chaos by continuing a war. then it makes perfect sense that the only way for goodness to truly prevail is to eliminate those that would try and murder your kinsmen.

I say Live and Learn or Die and Learn in this case. Its more realistic to not know what your up against untill your up against it. General appearance is a pretty good sign. It encourages people to pay more attention to the details of characters and equipment.
Aswell it allow lowbies/newbies to prepare their character for future defense/raiding of relics. When you battle another character your not only learning about the other characters defenses their also learning your tactics and next time you encounter them they'll know what to expect.

On the other hand, it's bound to turn off new players who get PKed several times if they're unlucky enough to join a faction during a raid. That happened to me a few times, and it wasn't exactly fun.
