New areas

Post by Ebenezer Grymm »

How would the DM team feel about having a new mid-high level area building contest?

Let the community members submit only fully fleshed out new areas and have the DM's balance the monsters and item drops appropriate to the area. I've got some ideas for server appropriate balanced dungeons I think everyone would love and are quite different from our existing content.

Of course we would only use stuff from NWOrig, SoU, and HotU, although I would LOVE to be able to use the island tileset from the Pirates patch, I'm pretty sure most of us have it if not from the patch than already included with NWN Diamond.

Just wondering if anyone else would be interested, and what the DM squad feels about community submitted content.
This will not be over quickly.

You will not enjoy this.

I have no pirate thinger...

Sounds like a nice idea although not sure if its probable.

For example how many people explore the whole server as it is? Mezzloths don't get visited much, Haddon Mirk is uncommon, Even Gnolls are neglected. I've seen few travel to the Ice Trolls, most people only to sunkin to farm gear. There are many undead dungeons that I'm sure havn't been visited. I mean I could be wrong on all this but from what I've seen it's true.

lol i just found the kobolds 2 mths ago pretty out of the way for an AO toon though. I love the Mirk and Gnolls though 2 of my favorite lowbie places. nice and quiet and really good xp the Crypt in the mirk is prettty good too if you have the right toon for it.
Im always excited for new areas. It would be fun to see what players come up with!

Hi guys, havent been here in a while, but I dont think new areas are the answers right. Reason I say that is because all the jobs are not completed yet. I've played on this server 2 months after it opened. Still the jobs are not completed. The jobs should have been done before mostly everything else. So why add another area when there are higher priority's still in play. This is just my opinion guys, your welcome to disagree, I dont really care. Server should not have come out of beta til they were completed in the first place. This will possibly cause some ppl to remake their chars, especially if they are ecl and almost lvl 40 :). Oh well, I have to go. Cya in the game. Maybe :).

Agreed Haddon Mirk/Ordean Caves/Gustav's Tomb/Greater Shadows of Mirk are great xp in low teens

Mezzoloths are great xp but a balanced party is needed there esp with rogue sneaks and the wizards with their spell mantles Not to mention the guardians with stingers.

Gnolls are also fun though the boss spawn is a little too slow for my liking.

Morsatai's Tomb and The Minotaur Crypt again - excellent xp for low teens. If you're a cleric you can take on all of Morsatai's Tomb at relatively low level 7-9th level. Decent xp all the way up to 13/14. Can start at 5 if u dare :)

Duskhaven is another less frequented place along with the Formians which are decent xp esp the myrmarchs.

Rock Peak and the Bandits on Icy Flats also good xp. Lizardmen on Wyrm Road - plenty of nice spots to get away from the more visited ones.

I would like more areas to be fleshed out - like the Niragawa Tower made into a few more levels deep with tougher CR's and uber Mystic Lord lol!

Wold area could be done to have a Medusa Queen boss.

I don't think it needs to be made bigger - plenty of spots could do with simple tweaks.

Yup, the Wold has plenty of cave entrances to make the place more interesting. There isn't even need to make tunnels &c. If you link the higher lvl with the lower, there is at least the possibility to access those impossible to reach hills atm. Though dungeons would be nice too of course.

Ther are plenty of areas that can be used instead of ogre mnt. Mezoloths can be solod by the right toon to, and back in the days when I used to play nc chars, montasari toomb and undead minitaurs where my main lvling areas.

What I would like to see however is something besides fd for 16 - 25 and zons from fd til planar areas. Once you can do planes, you have plenty of options. Atleast fire, wather, air, erth and dwards are accessable from +/- lvl 30, and pos, neg, shadow and hod after that.

Maybe a guide to some areas would be usefull. Something like:
1-3 Sewers under Neversummer
1-3 gobs. Outside the gate of ns
3-6 badits, costal road and ice flats.
3-6 orcs, southroad cave and black hills
and so on....
Best Regards

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Sunken is sadly under used as it has good access to diverse bosses, but FD => Zons => Planes seems to be the most common route. IF any areas where to go in, I'd like to see them in about the same cr range as fd and zons.

As for Yoda, I cant make toons able to survive planes at lvl 21 unless in a WERY well balanced party

Mmm. I would love to see a toon who can solo the planes at a decent rate at 21.
in any case it's a waste because their CR is way higher than you so you'll hit the cap. you'll level faster on creatures 4-5 levels higher than you (like zons).

so i'm not sure where you guys are going with wanting more areas....there are 7 cities with multiple maps, multiple areas of Zons, mulitple areas of Sunken, multiple areas of FD.

by your own admission alot of these are simply not used because the standard for all lvling toons is gobos->mtn->fd->zons->planes

if this is where everyone is going and you know there are alot more areas...how does it help to make more areas that ppl still won't visit?
