BG Spell & Summon

Post by Korr »

Hey all I have a BG in the works, but something been bugging me. I wonder if its just a swap out of a type for devs or something that might be easy to do, not sure. The BG gets to cast inflict critical wounds, and the summons are all undead. I was hoping I could heal the summon atleast once over with a cast of it, but it says I cant cast that on an ally due to pvp restrictions. It is supposed to be this way, and Im just stuck with maybe getting around to casting an inflict on a mob?

Dont summon the dead myself, i cant afford the overtime required to employ them. But I have offten cast inflicts on the undead summons of party memebers, without any trouble. Perhaps its because its not actually spell, but a class ability that mimics the effects of a spell.

Yeah thats what Im thinking. . . which made me wonder if there is some switch that can be made in the party-friendliness of it so I can heal my own summon.

I've had success using a healing kit on my undead summon...I think the summons (even though they have the undead race and classes in undead) are not treated like traditional undead as far as taking damage from healing effects and gaining HP from negative energy.

They are treated as true undead. . . you need inflict or harm to heal them up and cure/heal will hurt them.

Right Korr... need harm and inflict to increase thier hp. Used enough mass heals in party where someone had brought the walking dead.

Side note. Regeneration from monst regen, regen, battle tide, and ava... will all increase the dead's hp.

Never tried a heal kit, but if it did harm the dead, you would have every lowbie in Daeron running arround packin heal kits.
>The mighty cleric stands proudly, a bright red cross upon his shield, bellowing "The Dead dont stand a chance.. Ive got BANDAGES"

One might also wonder, if eons ago some fool tried to use the bandages on the dead, and made the first mummy?

I have also successfully used healing kits on summoned undead.

Healing kits, negative energy rays/bursts, inflict wounds spells, harm, and regenerative spells all increase hit points for summoned undead.

Cure wounds spells and heal spells do damage to undead.

The BG inflict ability must not be tweaked the same as a clerical inflict spell, if it is damaging undead summons instead of patching them up.

Unfortunately Inflict Critical Wounds is considered a hostile spell... might be fixable if we change that in the spell.2da, but I'm not sure. You're right to assume that BGs should be able to heal their undead summons with it though... it makes sense to me.

Well with luck maybe one of you few remaining devs will get bored one day and think of the poor BGs. Though its hards to really say poor BGs when my summon hits harder and faster than my BG but every lil bit helps ';)

Its technically a different spell even though it uses the same script.

I made a change to feat.2da that will hopefully allow Blackgurds to use their inflict critical wounds ability on their summon and allies.... once it gets copied over and the server gets reset it will take effect. Let me know if it works.

It won't, also needs to be changed client side. Whether it works with a client only change I'd be interested in, I know spell targeting was changed (see the default coded Polymorph spell line hysterics) in one of the patches...

Ok, try inflict light and moderate wounds, they aren't flagged as hostile while serious and critical are. I spent some time figuring out the weirdness of how they connect with spell settings in nwn2, so forgot about the nwn1 weirdness :(

It does indeed work now.. I can Cause Critical Wounds to heal my summons with the Blackguard feats now. Thank you very much. I was having the same problem with my blackguard but just figured it wasn't something worth worrying about but this will help. Thanks again.
