Hmm, beta my foot, character saves and kids games.
I played Beta1 for a while and decided to start a new character when I discovered you're not implementing many nwn skills, hope you get around to it in at the real beta.
Now when I start I do not get the rift plane cinematic and the faction choice. I am dumped in the Northern Coalition barracks. Perhaps this is deliberate. I was warned that choosing a faction was an important step.
However, I played my new character for several hours when my machine froze. I rebooted and hmm, no new character in mylist.
Perhaps someone could explain why characters aren't saved a bit more regularly or more importantly explain how I should deal with it.
Curious why the nwn crafting skills aren't used when they are efficient and balanced. Instead they've been replaced with something that has the imagination of a kids game. A real step backwards IMO, way back. You've invested time and effort to remove a significant portion of interesting, challenging nwn gameplay and replace it with unsophisticated, unchallenging mouse clicking. Why did you do it?
A Beta test is a pre-release test of a finished product. Neversummer4 is far from beta. You've got NPC's who don't have any conversation. There are minimal map waypoints and no signs I can see. Many doors have no transitions, etc. It seems like you're more at alpha and I'm wondering why you don't seem to be suggesting players write some non-plot content for you.
Best Wishes,
David Walker

1. You used a name that was already in the database. Make a new character, and you'll find your character goes through faction selection, and is saved quite often.
2. Crafting in NS makes sense. Try it out before you dismiss it.
3. It's beta, and yes, depending on the faction you choose, things will seem half-baked. Hopefully the other factions will get quests ala LA soon.
4. Despite all that, it's quite far from alpha in my opinion. I've played quite a few mods for NWN, and ns4 is by far the best. I just hope they heed the pleas from vets such as Arashi, and begin implementation of their updates. Beyond that, all we can do as player-testers is find bugs for them to smash.

If your talking about the skills your character can choose, then i dont agree, since the only skills that aren't usefull as i see it is Appraise, bluff, intimidate and pursuade. The rest of the skills is very usefull, and makes up for the lack of those 4.David Walker wrote: I discovered you're not implementing many nwn skills
Im not sure why your char isn't saved, it might be the reason Wen is suggesting. As i recall the chars are saved: At area transition, picking up/dropping items, resting. I might be wrong here though, but thats how i recall it.David Walker wrote:Perhaps someone could explain why characters aren't saved a bit more regularly or more importantly explain how I should deal with it.
If your talking about the crafting menu that you put skill point in, then it was taken out because it was highly exploitable. Also this way the items will match the items that drops ingame. In reply to Wen-Kai.
1. I like to use the same name. I didn't know you could run a server that can't deal with that. For your info I spent another 4 hours playing and got the boot and logged on and no character.
2. Doesn't make much sense. Content creation is one thing and appreciated. Removing some functionality of nwn which relates to character progression and adventuring and replacing it with something that equates to gold and XP loss is bunkum. No challenge, no urge to treasure found materials and tuck them away, no use of several inbuilt nwn skills that make players unique.
3. It ain't beta. Lack of content.
4. Quite far. A smidge maybe.
At this point I think concepts should be a little more important than bugs.
I'm quite happy to play a buggy server if I see people working on it. If someone wants to build a website this nice why don't they spend 1 hour and write an appraise script and give it to the merchants.
Obviously we all desire different things. I think a server should at least meet the standards of the nwn + expansions as a minimum. Not in content but in functionality. I thought the content of the NWN games were average. Not as good as BG 1&2. What I really enjoyed was the complexity of the ruleset. I think its cool to make some changes to suit multiplayer and specfic worlds. A lot of the changes listed on the nsrealms site seem cool to me. I don't think it's cool to remove functionality. I hate to see a server where pp is not allowed for example. Or where everyone walks around with custom everything at +5 all abilities. I really dislike that. 10 new potions to learn that do what the nwn ones do and look sillier and have silly names. I like custom items but I think modesty is a good watchword.
I haven't played many servers but I think Neversummer exceeds most.
I like the maps. Someone has gone to a lot of effort and done IMO a great job. So far I like what content I have seen.
The cinematics at the start were beautiful.
Best Wishes,

Give it a chance. After you play on it for a while (I have been on some form of Neversummer for almost two years (?!)), other servers and NWN will irritate you that it doesn't function this way.
It's not complete, but give it a chance. Play for a month and then see where your complaints still are.

You don't agree that many skills aren't implemented and then you list them. Bored at home?
Perhaps next time you want to say "I don't agree" you could have a think about whether there is some doubt about the subject. As you have mentioned and as listed on this website there are skills that aren't implemented. If you "don't agree" that skills aren't implemented then "don't agree" all you want. You'd be wrong. If you "don't agree" with my choice of the word 'many' then you should say so and then I'll know you're a nitpicker - I'll ignore you.
The rest of the skills are very useful and make up for those 4? What possible connection does Parry have with Intimidate? How can it 'make up' for it?
Some of the other stuff you said made sense but why should I bother?
Good Luck Netrom.dk,

Yep.
I intend to.
I've had NWN and expansions for a fair while. It really peeved me that (generally) the servers were so lame. So far Neversummer4 looks promising. I will give it a go as there doesn't seem to be that much else out there.

Dude, you're being an @SS. Netrom's a good guy - and you're brand new here and you immediately complain about things and then b!tch back at people when they try and inform you.
If you're interested about what skills are and are not implemented, have you checked out this posting in the documentation?
http://www.nsrealm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1245
Read through the documentation and some of the postings to get insight on why the devs made the decisions they did. If, after that and playing for a while your feelings of "it should at least meet the standards of the nwn + expansions as a minimum", you can always vote with your feet...

It is obvious from your aggressive word choice that you have left the realm of legitimate complaints and started to flame...if you'd like to continue this discussion, I'd ask that you please do so in a level-headed manner.David Walker wrote:You don't agree that many skills aren't implemented and then you list them. I'm a newcomer myself, as you can see from my post count, but I don't think you have hit many nails in the head with you post. Technical issues I can understand annoying you, but understand, that they cannot be helped AND with some probablity are because of your end, as this doesn't happen to others.
Considering crafting and skills - the crafting shown in the core game itself was perhaps the saddest excuse for a item-creating system I have seen yet, and easily is succeeded by the Neversummer one. Here you have to at least be near an anvil to make a sword! The system used here is pretty much by the book (DD 3,5 ed.) and therefore I wouldn't go harass the server creators, but WotC instead.
The skills you mention the server to be lacking are just accessories, nothing to go nuts about. They might be one of the most feeble parts of the game and totally unnecessary for a working and interesting server. Where they miss, others are cultivated well.
And one more note. Don't flame if you want even the slightest shred of credibility.
