Spells that don't work
Spells that don't work
I'd like to find out from players who have spellcasting toons as well as the devs themselves (if they have the time) what spells do not work. I am not so much interested in nerfed spells as much as spells that do not work at all!
For example Horizikaul's Boom does not work. A list of these kind of spells would assist those of us who have limited experience with spellcasters and can limit the headaches of for example a sorceror taking a spell that does not work which would mean a great deal of frustration.
The above would help in spell selection and also what schools to focus on if you know a certain spell does not work.
For example does Mass Blindness/Deafness work in NS4?
Does Blackstaff work?
Player's experiences with the lesser-used spells would help those of us more interested in making toons that are a little atypical and not your garden variety spellcaster without having to sacrifice playability.
Any assistance and contributions would be appreciated
Cheers

The Wiki would help more if you guys added to it. Unfortunately we don't have all the spell alterations in it, because only about 3 people add onto it. Besides, I rarely make casters so I couldn't help you in that area.
If I recall correctly, something is wrong with Continual Flame. I casted it on my morningstar and it seemed to have no effect, I can't remember if it just failed on all weapons or worked only on slashing. I don't really remember things well

Like much information this is supposedly in the Wiki. For a new person... or anyone the Wiki is not always an easy or fast way to find something.
Rather than answer "look in Wiki" or "look in Forums" it would be nice if you either suggested where in these areas to look or just don't bother to post. I'm sure if the original poster could find it easily in Wiki he wouldn't have posted.

Rummybum you hit the nail on the head. I and others would appreciate more assistance from fellow players to make NS a better community for us to belong to.
As Fricebottle said maybe more contributions from those players who have spellcasting toons in the WIKI would be a start.
A page perhaps could be added to the Main Spell Page - called Disabled or Broken spells.
Not sure how to create new pages - will have a look at how hard that is to do.
thanks for the replies

If ya ever need help doing anything, we'll teach you how or just do it for you.kgb wrote:Not sure how to create new pages - will have a look at how hard that is to do.
To create new pages on the Wiki, follow the example below. Quite simple.
Take this--->http://www.nsrealm.com/ns4wiki/index.php/<---- and put it in the Address. Then, for the name of the page you put it in at the end. Underscores for spaces in the name. So, say you wanted to add in a page called Broken Spells. You'd put in--->http://www.nsrealm.com/ns4wiki/index.php/Broken_Spells<---, which would open up a window that says "This page has not been created yet...". From there just write out what you had planned.
To link to other pages on the Wiki, you simply take the end (like for Continual Flame) and put Continual Flame and it will become a link. To link to category like spells, you put in Spells. To create a Category instead of an Article, put Category: before your word. So a category for Broken Spells would be--->http://www.nsrealm.com/ns4wiki/index.ph ... ken_Spells<----. To put an article in a category, simply put into it (preferably at the bottom).
EDIT: Didn't meant to create actual links.
@ Myrdyr - thanks yes one spell i mentioned has said its disabled. I appreciate your response. There are however a hundred or so spells and not all of them have been so clearly marked
@Fricebottle - thankyou I will have a play with it tonight to see if I can make it up. While we're on the subject what do you reckon is the best image linking site to use that can hotlink images without putting up "unauthorised" image holders. I see imageshack used alot is that a good one?
thanks

the reason why ppl say to look in the forums is because if you cant find how to create a wiki page from the forums, youre just being lazy.
I can remember at least twice before this thread when it was said how to do it, once by me.
Use the search button. there is one on both the wiki AND the forums.

I use Imageshack for all my Image-hosting needs. It servers it purpose for hosting screenshots of items and such.
@Alain: the definition of a community is one where people work together towards a common goal. I pointed out that I would do the research to see how to make the page. Attacking me for being lazy when you no nothing about me or my life situation borders on arrogance. Like you and I am sure others, I have real life commitments with a 40hr a week job.
In keeping with the community spirit I was deferring to those who have more time be they students or the unemployed who, as I do, enjoy NS and have more time to do the out of game stuff like screen shots of items, etc.
Nowhere did I infer that I was suggesting information be put on a platter for me. So please if you have no constructive comments to add to this thread please go elsewhere.
yours sincerely

OK, I just made http://www.nsrealm.com/ns4wiki/index.ph ... e_New_Page
The problems I've been having with the wiki besides not knowing how to create new pages or categories are:
- How to use templates (eg when adding a new artifact)
- How to edit locked pages (seems like most of the pages I want to edit are locked to prevent vandalism)

Templates are a bit tricky, but I'll show ya how.
There is no template for an artifact, rather you use templates for its item type. Say you find a heavy armor artifact, you would use a Heavy Armor Template rather than an Artifact one. Templates work like this.
To use one, start with a {{, and put in the template name after that. So for Armors, you put in {{Armors|. The | ends a line for a template, however to end a line otherwise you use <br>. From therin, you just add in what you're supposed to. I'll give a few examples.

After this, to add in unique properties like Regeneration, Race Limitation, etc. you add in Special Property: Whatever it is <br>
To link it to its appropriate category (which would be armor) you would add in at the bottom of your edit. Also add in if its heavy, or change that Heavy to Light, etc. Other categories include and .
To find templates for other items, generally edit one thats complete to take a look at how its set up. Like if you're adding in a morningstar, take a look at the Gnoll Flaming Dance Star, click the edit button, copy the text, back out, and create a new page and paste in the text there. Then replace the Gnoll Flaming Dance Star's stats with the stats of your add-in.

i will not submit to such a socialist ideal !kgb wrote:@Alain: the definition of a community is one where people work together towards a common goal.
