Does taunt affect sneaking?

Post by eklibo »

I've like taking my shadowdancers to the amazons because they're pretty easy to kill when they don't know who's hitting them, but I've run into something of a mystery regarding taunting.

It seems that when I'm taunted, enemies can see me as if I were not in stealth mode. My movement speed is still decreased, I get the message saying that I've entered stealth mode, and my character becomes partially transparent.

Whenever I'm not taunted, I can walk through the valley turning stealth mode on and off whenever I please and I don't have any problems, but when I'm taunted the amazons jump on me as if I were walking around in plain sight.

If anyone has input or has had a similar experience, I'd love to hear about it.

Hm, didn't encounter that particular problem. However once an enemy wants to taunt you, it won't matter if you are hiding or not, it will pursue you till it has finished this particular action. And as usually the mob just follows the taunter, it might seem like they are spotting you.
And sometimes they will just keep hitting you, regardless if you succeeded in hiding or not. Just part of the game. But I won't complain as dancers have a huge advantage anyway.

Yes I think I know what your talking about. I think it's because of the auto follow bug, if you know what that is. If the mobs have a taunt queued up when you go in stealth mode, then they keep on following you around even though they can't see you. However, they do not start attacking you. You just let them taunt you while you are in stealth, and then they walk away. Well that is what happens to me anyway.

I've noticed in Zons that once they lock onto you they'll follow you no matter what, they have done this even when I'm not taunted

The same thing happens left and right when you use darkness from drow or tielfing subrace ability... monsters will follow you around. Ive noticed if you get far enough away and let them walk close they get to the edge of the darkness and stop approaching (as if the system reinterpreted ur darkness) might be the same for stealth.

Darkness is a bit more complicated. The monster can see the darkness cloud and the AI is coded to investigate it even when they can't see anyone in it.

Though you can also get the auto-follow bug with darkness, same as invisibility and any other way of dropping out of a monster's perception.

i know on my hipsers it would constantly have monsters follow you even on a sucusful hide. if you stand there and let themcatch up to you they usually get right to you then stand there anddrool.

at least this has been my experience

As this is a question regarding taunting, can anyone tell me is the 30% chance of spell failure when taunted is in effect for monsters. I've taunted monster spellcasters to check, but they never seem to have a problem casting away.

ya it does disrupt some spells tho its more like 15% spell failure for a player than 30%. while it prolly is 30% only one or two spells per creature seem to misfire so i wouldent count on that part of taunt much

Monsters and players fail spells a lot when taunted... works great, especiallly when they try to cast heal.
