Bards and hiding

Post by Korr »

So I was thinking as I have been roaming about my life (only been able to play maybe 10 hours in the last 5 days (6 or 7 of those on saturday when somehow I got the nite off)... Shouldnt bards that are singing have a serious minus to their move silent ability? Especially if they have a buff song and a curse song going at the same time? I have pondered over what it said in the PHB about the particular song that increases skills, if I recall correctly it says that a bard cannot inspire compentence to help another character hide or move silently, as it is self-defeating (I contest that a bit by saying the bard is a great distraction to help someone move silently). So it would seem to me that this is a double effect for the bard himself, it would seem people with just a few ranks in listen should be able to hear the bard from anywhere in a room... maybe a few exceptions in underground caverns where sounds go crazy anyway. Just a thought I had while I was sitting here on my hour break for the day... 45 minutes away from my computer and NWN ';(

As a more direct approach to this, maybe give bards a minus to move silent equal to their perform skill... or 1/2 or 1/3 or something whatever seems appropriate. So that a toon with 30 bard at level 40 would have about 80 perform, have about the same move silent and then get 95 or so MS from song, then loose 80 to get 15 (seems appropraite for a singer) or in the better cases 55 MS/ 70. Most of those numbers are approximations but I think it gets the point across.

Thanks for reading, lemme know what you all think.
