Re: Drop rates in Posi
Well, it's not like I would be playing lately anyways. I just thought I might give the poor souls who try to survive in POP (Planes Of Positive energy) some few more drops. As of now you really dont get much. Even with a group of 6 people (yes I had to endure those unsufferable DDs
) we didnt get much, at least as I was along.
But... If you like it as it is, so be it, I won't comment anymore on it.
Just one little thing: [@ JP] I never wanted some free gifts from POP. I only asked for a more rationale drop rate. Anyways, its noted and discarded. I can live with that...

Re: Drop rates in Posi
Just about all the planes have the same drop rate... the only difference is the rate of kills. Even though Dwarf Home and Neg/Pos Plane have the same drop rate, its obviously easier and faster to kill dwarves so it seems like the drop rate is higher.

Re: Drop rates in Posi
I don't know, the Gods of random chance have never been favorable to me. Case in point, my pnp partners never let me roll for the group, unless the DM was feeling particularly wicked and made me roll for the group, but anyway.
I spent hours prewipe killing glimmers and while I saw lots and lots of glimmer robes and glimmer kamas, I never, ever saw glimmer boots drop, for me personally. In all the runs through posi plane I've only heard of three actually dropping and was only actually on one of those runs. I'd say I completed at least 100 runs through posi and know I spent more than 30 hours killing glimmers. Everything there seems to drop just fine to me, the drop rates are pretty good compared to other planes imho, but those stupid boots never seem to want to drop. Of course it could just be me, as stated above.
I know my bro-in-law spent more time than I did doing the same thing with his pure bard Fezsick pre-wipe so it really makes you wonder about that particular item.

Its not just glimmer boots but all epic boots that are damn near impossible to get. Try getting a pair of IA boots.
Thats something I might like to see tweaked is the loot table once it has been determine that there will be a drop.
What are the chances that you would get a suit of heavy IA layered plate? Now calculate the chances of getting 2 of them in the same loot pile. Armors and robes seem to appear 3-4 times more than any other type of loot, making all other loot seem that much rarer.

I put the IO in socIOpath!

Re: Drop rates in Posi
the tables are set up pretty basic in a mostly random kind of way. loot is dropped into a creatures inventory when it spawns into the mod. then it gets broken down into what it "can" and "will" drop.
so you go....
I II III IV V VI VII VIII as the categories to which a creature can draw from to spawn its lootz.
the categories are broken into level ranks by items.
1-5 6-10 11-15 16-20 21-25 26-30..so on and so forth.
so a goblin with a cr of 3 draws from the category of I with an item lvl of 1-5
a posi glimmer dude is cr 35 or something and draws from categores I-VIII employing all items within the lvls to 1-35.
so while a gobo always drops the same kind of lootz.....the high end creatures have lots more lootz to choose from as far as what drops. so we give you like a 30-50% chance something will drop...and it gives you 50000 items in a random number dropped into your would be dead creatures inventory for his lootz.
*this is a basic layout...i'm not even sure how close the numbers are
*

Re: Drop rates in Posi
Odds play into this too. Since there are only 3 kinds of lvl 30 boots to draw from (IA Boots, Beholder Skin Boots and Empowered Boots) and at least 3 types of Full Plate (Piercing, Slashing, Bludgeoning), 3 types of Robes (Piercing, Slashing, Bludgeoning) and several other assorted armors in between (Other Heavy, Medium and Light armors), you are more likely to see an armor drop then anything else. With just the base armors you are already looking at 4 to 1 odds. That is before you throw in all the different IA weapons and other 30th level body slot items. Probably something closer to 10 to 1 for a set of boots and it's three times as hard to get IA boots. That's alot of bosses to kill.Lorkar wrote:Its not just glimmer boots but all epic boots that are damn near impossible to get. Try getting a pair of IA boots.

Nice explanation, Tep and Loki - been wondering how that works for a while.

Re: Drop rates in Posi
the odds are higher than that Mloki...its not how many boots are lvl 35, its all the boots until lvl 35. so....25 to 1? or so
Re: Drop rates in Posi
That was back when, Tep, things changed a bit because it was a horrendous amount of processing and the things it would have allowed to do were never done
A given NPC has set drop rate. This is adjusted by what spawned with it (so stuff that will drop treasure is spread out most of the time like one or two per group). There are some other special things I won't go into...things like boss mobs or assigned group leaders almost always dropping, etc...
If an npc will drop loot the following happens:
- Look at the drop levels of the NPC (treasure tiers) and the types of loot npc will drop. Throw that stuff on him. This is the generic gear and miscellaneous items for the most part.
- Look at the NPC's equipped items. Roll some stuff, pick that number to drop. (This is the mob specific stuff.)
In general there's no normalizing, you're at the mercy of an RNG. It's better than the one in nwscript, but still possible to produce results like 3 of mob A on a map and 25 of mob B from which you want stuff but only the 3 mob As rolled to drop loot.
Planes are set up a little differently spawn-wise too from other maps, especially the elemental ones so that has some minor effects.

so is it true that whenever you see a "broken" book, or a dye pot, or gold nugget type thing you should cry because that coulda been a +2 book (all in the same treasure cat of lv 10 whatever?)
Re: Drop rates in Posi
And I still think some mobs just are broken, like the moleman with shurikens and shiv. He never drops the shiv. Or look at the death archer... Ive been killing them en masse lately - only gems dropped once, nothing else.

Are you killing him while he's using his shiv, or is he using a throwing weapon?
