Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
I'm not sure what you are talking about tep, i feel like that post was kind of missing the point. Anyways, it is only +3 ac if they have 15 tumble ranks. A +15 magical bonus gives no ac.

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Tep is right... the rat can have 60 tumble and you will still excetute an AoO trying to hit it. It will make the roll and survive and you will still have wasted your action and dropped stealth or invis or w/e.
Personally, the AoO helps my lowbies. I don't really think this is an issue except on narrow bridges. All other scenarios... just give the rats a wider berth.
Also, driving with ASWD helps to prevent all this from occurring.

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Would giving them Spring Attack prevent breaking a spell queue (which using wasd won't help here because casting and not moving) or pull you from stealth mode? I thought if they made the tumble roll then no attack would be made. Seriously didn't think this change would become the Polio of our server's lowbies. I for one have never thanked AoO for my experience points at low levels. This seemed like a logical suggestion with an easy fix to make the RP of the world a bit more accurate and enjoyable, but if you guys are so married to not changing it then thanks for the responses.
Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Cast invis as your first spell and dont buff near rat paths?

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Buffing isn't problematic, it is when you are in the heat of battle and are trying to cast some quick heals and buffs and the damn rat breaks your spell queue while a fighter is breathing down your neck. This has killed my monk cleric on a few occasions.Korr wrote:Cast invis as your first spell and dont buff near rat paths?
It isn't really a big deal though. Just one of those small annoyances.

If the fighter has see invis you probably shouldnt stand around to buff

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
because all clerics cast invis? It is an 80 ac melee cleric anyways. He stands wherever he pleases.

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
its a hard coded process that stems from direct rule sets on how to handle combat. something moves through your attack range and your obliged to take a free swing at it not matter how insignificant it may be. all hostile creatures will be attacked regardless. giving them tumble or not they will still incur the attack while moving close to you.
i'm unsure if giving them spring attack will solve this problem. at its face description you would think so, but in practice on the actual bioengine...it'd probably do it anyway just to piss you off.

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Add an AoE damage spell to your buff queue .. or cast the AoE first .. rat dead no Aoo.

start ur queue with darkness...
Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
Guys, I know several game tricks to get around these problems. I'm not asking for suggestions on how to do that. I was hoping for an elimination of the problem, but it seems that it can not be changed. Thanks for the suggestions.
Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
only way to avoid that : add improved unharmed strike to rats and beetles..no attacks of oportunity..

They'll still get one from being bad at running.hond wrote:only way to avoid that : add improved unharmed strike to rats and beetles..no attacks of oportunity..

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
The real question to answer here is would pvp without AOO on rats really be better then it is now? I definitely think not.

Re: Problem with Attack of Opportunity
It lessens PvP to a huge degree. By giving archers and people who basically meta-game by switching to a ranged weapon IS NOT good PvP nor D&D at all. Things like speed, DR, AC, Hide/MS, wearing the right protection gear for the fight(rather than the 'let's avoid the rats now' ranged weapon gear), feat choices, skill choices, etc. are what makes for good PvP. Rats slowing anyone down whether raider or defender(I want this to help everyone not just my factions) is based on luck and game engine nonsense, not your build or ability to use your build at all. More than wanting to change this any more, I'm confounded by all the people who actually like that this type of bug exists. How can this be liked at all except by people who've gotten really good at taking advantage of running through a pack of rats with a ranged weapon? That is the ONLY link between a person liking them and thinking it's good for PvP.
If we won't/can't change the rats, then I should bring up my first suggestion for fixing this from my original post. Is there a way to code a /enableaoo, /disableaoo type of command to turn your own AoO off and on at will? That way the people who like being stopped to kill some threatening rats with a relic on your back with defenders popping you with ice storms and igms will get what they want, and the people who don't like that can just skip it.
