It isn't actually a flat -40 hide, it is -1 hide per level I believe, so we generalize and say -40 because that is the scope that most of us build for.

The frustrating (and humorous) part to me is that the knowledge, thought, and reasonings you put behind your suggestions appear very uninformed and your responses very argumentative. This is not meant as an insult, but the more you reason these things with veterans, the more you appear to lack vital information about the effects of your suggestions.

There is a famous saying that goes something like: 'It is better to be silent and allow others to assume you are the fool, than to open your mouth and prove it.' Suggestions are good, arguing is not. I'll admit that I even learned from this whole discussion... I thought the aura was -10 hide, just like any bright light source. I was unable to find documentation to back up the -40 hide claims, but i am just accepting it, since enough people have said it. Here is where I found my info: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Spot and from our wiki: 'Aasimar Aura: Gives off a bright light, Hide penalties to anyone entering it, and blinds Drow and Tieflings who enter it.' (Bright light - which i assumed 20m, per the item property).
understood i get where you are coming from, but on the same token i'm not exactly a newb and i have played before, it's been awhile so there are a lot of new things coming out. If i have a rebuttal or I question something it doesn't make it automatically an argument, it makes it a discussion. Which is what i was looking for, but instead got 'who's this newb who is stating things that seem ridiculous.' just because i do not agree with you doesn't make me any less informed. However i understand what you mean, and even though i disagree with it. I however agree to the fact that the item is very useful at spotting sneakers. I just believe it is on the wrong race. Fighters are not meant to spot, they are meant to damage and kill. Just My opinion.

Also i am a person who doesn't except a 'just because' answer. I question, i'm sorry if this made it seem like i was challenging the knowledge of veteran players, or making it seem like i had more knowledge than players who have played longer than myself.

I also learned a few things on investigation after being refuted several times lol :). i did the same thing and took it as fact that the token gives -40 to hide. which is much better than the light spell.

So in conclusion, yes the token is useful at what it does. However i think it is given to the wrong race who's favored class is paladin. Make the favored race a cleric, or perhaps make another race that is paladin favored, or something to that affect, and give them a different token.

To help with future discussion... clerics don't get spot as a class skill.

lol, ok pvt joker

i will agree to that. also i did not know clerics did not get spot as a class skill, then that makes rangers a better class suited for it. in either case IMO paladins deserve better! lol

Paladin at +50 + aasimar aura can see stuff. So its fine. Do you really expect drow to be the best race for cleric too?
