Duration of polymorph self
Is it possible to stick to the duration of polymorph self to 1 turn per level as specified? currently it seems to lasts only a few rounds..
Should we limit player chucking potions repeatedly in a duel too?

Re: Duration of polymorph self
Potion issue is already covered. Potion strength goes down with each subsequent usage the faster you quaff them.

Here is a link to the other topic I think Korr is referring to: Healing in PvP
Since it is in the section regarding player polls, it may not be the most intuitively obvious location to find it.
If there is some other topic more relevant, please make a link to it.

Does the Silver Strider possess the Power Cosmic?

Nope Retzbu that's the one. Who's going to be the first to add another reply? I love watching Vaga's chest swell with pride about how long that subject has been debated. Pretty funny really.
Bottom line is that its perfectly acceptable if you want to drink pots. No rules against it. However, not many of the experienced PvP guys do it. You're flatfooted while you're chuggin thus you're getting hammered. Most of the time you can't chug pots fast enough to keep up with the additional damage received while you're drinking. Like has been said before, it's usually just a waste of time and money. If you're having to drink pots then 9/10 you'll being losing the fight anyway.
...
Funniest chugger I fought (can't remember his name as he was pretty new). I was playin' cleric. I'm standing on the boat in frost and some guy, a number of levels lower than me takes some swings at me while we're on the boat. Like 5 or 6 swings before he realizes that its a no PvP zone and they're doing no damage. I'm thinking? What The Huh? So I follow him to Falme. Where I implode him.
So now I'm standing there in Falme. And he comes back. He starts taking swings at me again. But none actually hit even though I'm standing flat footed. (Wis based AC) Trying to convince him to get the point to move on... I cast harm on him. But he just gets madder I guess and keeps swinging. So I harm him again. And again. Now he's near death and he drinks a pot. So I Harm again. Pot again. Harm. Pot. Harm. Pot. (I think I had 6 queued.) Then Inflict, Inflict, Inflict. He's drinking pots like crazy. Finally, I equipped a bow and shot him with one arrow right in the eye. And killed him (15 pots later).

thought this thread was about polymorph not chugging?

Chugging has been beat to death.
I would like to know more about the polymorph subject.

Polymorph does last for a decent duration with enough caster levels. You just have to realize that it will end and be prepared for it. If it was 1 turn/level you could actually count on it lasting until dispelled. It's not extendable but 1 turn/level would make it last long enough to stay polymorphed until everybody else needed to rest. Only problem is that polymorph is still a little buggy but it can be effective with the right build. I would love to see it last 1 turn/level but I don't think it is necessary.

Re: Duration of polymorph self
I have played with polymorph builds in the past, and although fun, found the duration to be a bit to short. I think with 1 turn/level we would see some really good builds come forth that could challenge the druid and shifter builds. Imo it would be rather fun, and it would create a whole knew element to the game with a minor spell change. I am sure there are people with much more knowledge and input on the subject than myself. It would be interesting to hear from the folks that have played with such builds a bit more.

Re: Duration of polymorph self
Giant spider shape does make lowbie-hunting more fun, though.

Re: Duration of polymorph self
Honestly I had never noticed that both Polymorph Self and Shapechange were supposed to be 1 turn/level. Perhaps the durations were shortened due to previous abuse with the old forms. Since this has all been reworked do the new shapes still justify the shortened duration?

Re: Duration of polymorph self
If mages get LONG term polymorph, can we un-nerf the druid spells? Im assuming on this one that druids are supposed to be the "shifty" types and mages are the casting type.
Ice Storm was improved (not party friendly)
Natures Balance. . . nerfed
Creeping Doom. . . nerfed
Isaacs. . . powerfull
Bigby. . . powerfull
etc. . . etc

Re: Duration of polymorph self
I have to respectively disagree on that Korr. Many arcane spells have been nerfed to the point of almost uselessness. A new player that tries to make an arcane toon has a lot of rubbish to weed through and relearn about the spells and all the changes. The bigby spells have lost their power in troves since they have been nerfed. I strongly believe that many of them should have just been left alone, but that's not the point of this thread.
I do not play a lot of arcane builds anymore, but I have seen the polymorph spell as 1 turn/level on other servers, so my input will be sort of neutral on this. Even at 1 turn/level it will not compare to the druid or shifter shapechange abilities. From my experiences 1 round/level is very short, and in truth makes the spell non-desirable for the most part and almost useless. I say "almost" because it still has its uses, but the spell is very limited due to the short duration. When you get into planar areas 1 round/level is one or two combat cycles, and then having the spell expire in the middle of one of those combat cycles cannot be a good time I imagine. I can actually see a lot of potential by increasing the duration of the spell. The only downside I could see would be from people being forced to deal with new builds... sort of like what they had to do with the new shifter forms and elemental cookie cutter builds that are popping up everywhere.
I for one vote for the change in spell duration.
What about any of the staffers... any thoughts on the topic?

Re: Duration of polymorph self
Shifters seem pretty powerful, from what I've seen, even after the nerfs.
1 round/level is how long many combat spells last; seems appropriate for polymorph self as well to me. Mages aren't meant to be front-line tanks anyway.

Re: Duration of polymorph self
That really depends on each person's view of what a mage is suppose to be. Do you see them as spell slingers or as masters of the arcane arts? I think many people have the false illusion that mage classes should simply throw spells at others then be useless after that. I see it as mage type builds should be able to utilize arcane magic to make them the most effective. Lets face it, spell slingers are absolutely useless in planar areas. This I do know from play experience. Again, spell slingers are useless if a melee toon survives the caster's initial barage of spell slinging then chuggs a pot or two. By bringing a small change to this spell, I believe it could open many doors for arcane casters and elevate play experience overall for the server.frogofpeace wrote:Shifters seem pretty powerful, from what I've seen, even after the nerfs.

Oh wait.. Frog you are generally from NC.. no wonder you don't want the spell changed.
