Bring LA back into the Mix!!!
Bring LA back into the Mix!!!
LA has always kind of been noob central so what if LA was restricted to just base races so new players would have someplace to join no matter what build they started with. It happens often enough where a player starts a good elf wizard and is left with no faction to join. I don't believe this would give LA a huge advantage and would actually keep them in balance with other factions. Even with the unrestricted classes the limit on decent races would keep this faction from getting overbalanced. This would also stay within the Lore of LA closing its gates to outsiders since no "Outsiders" would be allowed there.

Then make them base class only no PrC's at all.
I put the IO in socIOpath!

agreed, this would make it very viableLorkar wrote:Then make them base class only no PrC's at all.
No Blackguards, WM's, just base classes would keep it in control

Actually it is not a bad idea. It would be the only faction that could produce a mixture of base class builds that are not allowed anywhere else. Could be fun.

we have had plans for LA for a while..but no dev's to do any real work on it...patience

Re: Bring LA back into the Mix!!!
I have a few suggestions for this once so great faction (from what I've heard anyway)...
I know I haven't been around for more than a few months, but this faction sure has some great opportunities and I love the module so far. So don't judge my words too harshly will ya?
To make it work like the other factions it would need very strict restrictions. So that only some classes can be mixed together there and thus making it impossible for über builds with paladin and sorc in the same combo for example. I'm not an expert scripter but this module sure has some complex scripts, so I bet it would be possible in one way or another. Also, restricting it to humans, halflings, half-elves and moon/sun elves would be the best idea.
I think it would be a great opportunity to open it up for those good aligned wizard and sorcerors that seems to be banned from this realm (cept for that weird RK faction which seems to be the least restricted one when it comes to classes and alignments).
The problem I've seen, and I know I'm not the only one, is that elven mages have no home in this realm. This makes Sun-Elves (my fav subrace) and Moon-Elves less playable, as they both have bonus class/favored class 'wizard'. Placing Sun-elves who are among the most noble elves in the same faction as dreadminded necromancers, thieves and fiendish beings from the outer planes is just not right. Sure, one or two moon-elves have been corrupted by the weave and has therefor been turned into one of those shadowmagicians. While sun-elves often live far away from the other races, even from their own kin. They are simply too civilized for the rest.
Same thing goes for the lawful halflings, the knightly type you find in LotR and other fantasy tales. Those would be the paladins, not very holy but more of the loyal warrior that never backs down in a fight. Sure, there are elves who seek to become paladins aswell but as we know they tend to live among humans and worship their gods instead (take lady aribeth for example).
Then comes the humans, not the lawful type or the fanatical holy warriors. but more of the waterdeep kind of humans, those who follow logical patterns and work with magic, fear for the extreme and seek nothing but knowledge and to uphold the laws of the universe.
So my suggestion is;
To open it for Good aligned moon and sun elf mages.
And for neutral (read all neutral alignments) human/half-elven mages.
And finally for the lawful good and lawful neutral halflings.
(clerics should ofcourse be allowed for everyone, thus making it possible to create mystic theurges (wiz clc) and such)
This would make this faction a blend of law and corruption (NE humans), bitter elves who see no other choice than to ally with them, and then the brave little halflings, who seek to prove themselves worthy to the tall folk. All of them forced to work together even if they would prefer to be on their own. As none of them would have access to all of the classes that would be available for the faction.
Where the rogues would be seen as diplomats, mages and clerics mixing together forming a mystical haven of lore. And warriors from all those races
Here comes a short summery of the suggestion;
Races; Humans, Halflings, Half-elves, Moon-Elves & Sun-Elves
Alignments; LG/NG/CG elves, LG/LN/NG halflings, and LN/TN/CN/NG/NE humans.
Baseclasses per race;
Elf: wizard/sorceror/bard/ranger/cleric/fighter
Human/half-elf: wizard/sorceror/rogue/ranger/cleric/fighter
Halfling: paladin/monk/rogue/bard/fighter/ranger
Domains; Good, knowledge, magic, protection and all 4 elemental domains.
There should only be one restriction when it comes to prestigeclasses though, and that should be no Blackguards for the few NE humans that would be allowed to enter LA. All other special PrC's would be impossible anyway. So it would only be open for those PrC's that are allowed in all factions.
Another suggestion would be; Unique darkfire damage 'positive'. This would mean negative energy protection must be rescripted for SL clerics to protect against positive instead, or give a 50% immunity to both negative and positive to balance it out abit.
Thats some of my ideas, if the dev-team is really open for suggestions when it comes to reopening LA
In any case, we need an alternative mage faction for humans and elves.
Cheers! /arvut a.k.a Nadriand Thieles

Re: Bring LA back into the Mix!!!
Mystral Ascendancy... or even AO and SL. MA is *the* arcane faction...The problem I've seen, and I know I'm not the only one, is that elven mages have no home in this realm.
AO can have good-aligned sorcerers.I think it would be a great opportunity to open it up for those good aligned wizard and sorcerors that seems to be banned from this realm (cept for that weird RK faction which seems to be the least restricted one when it comes to classes and alignments).
Code: Select all
Same thing goes for the lawful halflings, the knightly type you find in LotR and other fantasy tales. Those would be the paladins, not very holy but more of the loyal warrior that never backs down in a fight.
LA was shut down because it was insanely cheap... hence lots of folks would flock to it. The 2nd most popular faction was AO, and LA still had over twice as many players as AO. *If* we were to bring it back as a player faction (and we have no plans to do that right now), it would have to come down heavy on the nerfing... but like Tep said, we do have plans for LA that I hope to see actualized.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!
