New XP script
I'm not sure if the new script is working how it was intended. I have a low lvl drow(lvl7) and he doesn't get xp if he kills something that has to high of a lvl. Just wanted to point that out cause i'm not sure if thats what you hand in mind or if thats just a side affect.
I don't know about what happens if you try to kill something that’s too high a CR but i sure do know about stuff that is too low that will smoke my butt.
Last eve with my lvl 20 arcane archer, who does not have an ac of 100 was trying to run through a zone and got “spawn jammed”, surrounded by about 15 CR 9's. For what I could kill I saw that rewarding line. “You get no experience for slaying this creature”. Funny part about it is that when
I died and respawned there was absolutely no mistake about me losing 1000 xp as a penalty.
To me that just wrong. So very wrong. You should get some xp. I’ve talked about it with other players who are very loyal to NS and they all say the same thing. “Wait until the new zone are installed, it won’t be so bad then”. Well for a dex based archer who doesn’t have the “robe of nothing can hurt me” it is bad. Very very bad. Specially with the script bugs pulling you into spawn as you run. What got me into the situation with those CR 9's chasing was that my PC just stopped dead in it’s tracks while running, long enough to get surrounded even while in party with and traveling with someone who is umber. It took them close to 35 second to a minute to kill each one of those critters. 5 minutes to clear the area.
I discovered that I got xp by attacking a CR 14 wasn’t much but livable. However, what scares me about it is now, to advance, I’ll have to go after stuff that if they stomp their foot to the ground I’ll fall down dead. We’ll see how this goes. To me it seams silly that if something can kill you and cause a penalty that if you kill it you get nothing.
Not only that it’s crafters that will pay the heaviest price for this new xp system. Crafting is a passion of mine. (Notice no complaining about the changes to the crafting) Add into the mix the bugs that stopping and turn into mobs when running, not being able to change your attack on occasion or your attack just stopping for no reason all usually at a critical moment, and it becomes a deadly frustrating mix.
Give something, anything for xp when killing any creature. Not this “even though you get nothing, nada, zip, no xp from these guys, if they kill you we’ll make sure that we’ll take away lots of xp from you”

Look at it this way:
At some point you cant learn anything new when fighting rats, since you know all their tactics, and know the easiest way of fighting them, at this poit you will not be a more expirienced adventurer for this, so you have to move to harder monsters. This procedure ofcouse repeats at all CR levels.
The thing abot loosing exp when getting killed: Even if you know all there is to know about rats, it still hurts to get bit by them

I’ve been involved in MMORPG’s for a few years and in NWN for about 4 now. I have an idea or two about making builds. Some may not be the best, because conditions, variables, nerfs and restrictions change from server to server.
Jester, any time I’ll forward my PC’s stats to you, classes and skills used, feats taken. You work a PC copy of me to lvl 20. Then I’ll give you the gear that I have no choice but to use right now, armor weapons etc. take you into the very place where I died. Then we’ll see what thoughts you express and who JustSucks.
I must also express my deepest thanks to you Jester for your compliment on my first character that I have built here in NeverSummer. After 4 weeks or so experience in NeverSummer I think it's pretty good build as do some others. Your warm comment extends a welcoming hand to someone new to NeverSummer and to these forums.
Netrom:
As far as having an increasing scale in XP from killing goblins or rats, that I did find rather interesting and not necessarily correct. Anytime you kill something you should “learn” from it. Even if the experience learned is at the most minimal, because by getting killed by it, you learn a very costly lesson.
By not learning anything at all, it makes an area totally redundant to visit for the sake of visiting unless your just passing through. Then using invis, stealth or Greater Sanctuary will be the order of the day, because to do any fighting when there absolutely nothing to be gained would be a waist
of time, energy and for an archer, resources.
Alot of servers have nerfed GS and invis to some degree and given mobs true seeing because they found that they didn't want players to just run through an area to get to mega drop zones. I have learned that alot of developers, in time, would get a little disappointed in not seeing players use ever increasing amount of areas. Specailly after the work they put into creating these fascinating worlds we play in.

Indeed. There's a difference between stating an opinion and personally attacking a player. It'd be nice if you learned the difference, jester.JustDrow wrote:I must also express my deepest thanks to you Jester for your compliment on my first character that I have built here in NeverSummer. But enough of that. We don't need a flame war.
About the low XP threshold... You're learning! You *should* go invis or sneak past them if you don't want to fight them. Even if the devs would love you to visit all the areas all the time, they have to admit that you'll most likely never go to the sewers again after your low level adventures.
But it isn't completely a "don't make sense to learn stuff from rats at level 20" issue, but it also addresses an exploit issue where you could level to 40 on rats alone if you're patient enough.
If you tilt your head far enough and squint hard enough, anything becomes as simple or complex as you'd like--regardless of whether it is or not. -- A lesson learned from Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science
so if i understand , they lifted the lvl25 cap, but u can't pass lvl 30 cuase there's nothing higher than cr 24-25?
Kinda stupid , or just a filthy trick to make people pay for there lvl 40 character?
Sorry about my expression, but this is just thoughts. Not gonna play anymore till that new idiot rule is fixed.
Greetings Eva

One thing I have noticed in regard to any discussion bout this 0 xp for rats and the majority of players who do support it, with reasoning like “you shouldn’t be able to learn from rats at some point” or “ it’s to stop exploiting getting to high levels by using rats” or “ you have to move on to other areas my dear”, are pretty much well seasoned players who:
A. Got their level 20 + characters by exploiting old system, using rats and goblins and now see it as an evil way for new players to use. Which I tend to agree with. But 0 xp... naaa I’m still having a hard time getting over that. To those that say “well you could level all the way to 40 if your patient enough”. True, but for players with a bit of intelligence and a sense of adventure would die of boredom trying to do that. With the average server requiring 780,000 xp to get to level 40 that’s a ton of rats.
B. Seam to forget that some of us, don’t know the server. Which means that:
We don’t know all the CR levels of various critters.
We don’t know the different zones are where we can find the right CR to level with.
We are learning that not all critters of the same CR are equal. Some we can handle others smoke our butts that are at the same CR, causing us to lose xp.
We don’t know what gear can be crafted or found as drops.
We don’t know where the “good” gear drops.
We don’t know what is on the other side of that transition, will we live or die by “zoning in”
We don’t know to what “rift shards” we can bind to, to keep us close to the action.
We don’t know when 2/3's of the cities and towns are.
We can spend 2 hours “lost” trying to discover what is where, when someone 5 PC level better than you with all kinds of NS experience and mules that have gear to cover just about anything comes along and pk’s you butt sending it back to “Go” where you don’t collect 200 gold. Then
comes out with a smart comment about “how it was fun for them”, or “if you can’t handle a pvp server you shouldn’t be here.” To top that off we lose some piece of gear that would be useless to the one who pk’d us but important to us because that’s all we have.
We often have to run through the very leveling tunnels and sewers that we started in because we don’t know where to “bind” and in order to get through those areas we have to spend “time” fighting our way out. Only to start the 2 hour exploration again.
Some of us who enjoy crafting and who are anxious to see what a Master Artisans can make have to level twice. In order to reach Master Artisan we have to drop 31,000 xp from our PC levels into crafting , not to mention the cost in gold that needs to be spent.
We don’t know where and what crafting tables will allow us to craft to Master Artisan and have to “go experimenting and exploring into areas that are extremely dangerous to us”.
So on behalf of us “new” people who are blind, deaf, dumb and ignorant as to many many things in NeverSummer, to those who “exploited” their way to level 20+, or who have played Never Summer for 2 - 3 - 4 years. Take your blinders off and understand where we “newbies” are coming from.
The evolution of every server is to transition itself on behalf of experienced players making it more difficult for newer ones. Even if the server vault got wiped to get rid of all that gold, gear on mules and ill gotten levels that some experienced players have through exploiting. They would still have a great advantage over anyone new coming in and that is they know where gear, places, xp and crafting tables can all be found.
So getting 0 xp from a rat at level 12 is frustrating, because we have no choice but to kill that rat or get “spawn jammed” and auto attack takes over for you.
Trust me when I say. No one and I do mean NO ONE wants to will try to kill 780,000 rats to get to level 40.
