Reset vote?

Post by CrazyJ »

Is there any way to add a way to vote to trigger a reset? Maybe a pillar in ave that's scripted so that if 32 people (seperate logins) bash it in the space of 5 minutes, it fires the 5-minute to reset script?

I know i've seen the server reset itself at least once, so part of this is possible...

Been going 2+ hours in sore need of a reset right now and not a dm to be found.

From what I heard last night people were hitting on irc and getting no response.

I wonder if poor Centurion is still stuck in the planar store.

Perhaps add it to an option of our book. So players can coordinate a please reset request with majority wins however some form of tallying uses for this would be needed for each login/toon otherwise we will have Fatzos spamville!

I don't know, it's the same as the vote for banning a player. I didn't like that feature on other servers either. I think it would create more havok than do good.
Imagine few players on the server. Some are waiting for a certain boss respawn. The majority decides to reset the server. BANG. And they go farming. Far more faster than it should too.

Nah, the possibilities to abuse are far greater than the advantages I fear.

An alternative suggestion that I've seen handled very successfully on other servers:
Have assistant dms who have few if any privileges beyond being able to reset the server. This not only provides more people able to do a reset, but creates a pool of potential future dms.

I think something better would just be an auto-reset set at specific times during the day. Lets say perhaps at Mid-Night, Noon, and 6:00. Something like that, and each day 5 minutes before a reset the server announces it.

I could see auto-resets during peak times. Those'd be kinda handy. Every 3 hours from about 3PM to 3AM, when server traffic is at it's worst.

what is the problem here people? dm's reset the server a hole lot more often than any other server i have seen out there. anyone played on 3.5 latley the lag there is incredible, because it has auto reset. you want to implement an auto recent policy fine, but relize that the dms will no longer care about reseting the server. IE you will go alot longer without a reset with an auto reset system than you would without one.

and besides i have never seen a time that the server went more than 2 hours without a reset when it was requested both in game and on irc.
