Relic capture reward

Not sure if this has been brought up before or not, too tired to spend the extra time searching the forums for it :P

If a large group is raiding, relics can be brought in rather fast, but if its a single person, it can take a fair bit of time to go get them all. And since most of us dont have hours apon hours per day to enjoy the bonus xp we bring in, maybe a slight xp / gold reward for each relic you bring home to your own cradle?

Something along the lines of 500 xp / 2000 gold a capture. A little something to reward the time / effort. I know a few peeps who are getting tired of being the solo raiders, because of the time involved, plus the uncertainty of this new "random relic reset" rule also adds to the uncertainty of how much they can enjoy their work, xp wise. If at all for that day.

the relic resets aren't by any means new. they were going on back in beta when the relics first went in. its more of a keeping the relics moving around so the same faction doesn't have the relics constantly and no one else gets the bonus.

Weeeeell, the majority of the time the relics are in AO (cuz of the fanatic Slaves who seem to never sleep and get lvl 35+ toons in about a week), or in LA through efforts of tLB and HNS.

DD and FoN have been making a comeback though.

In Reflections it's all TLB or IO :D

2000g doesn't even start to cover the costs associated with raiding (avg 24k/raid for most factions due to dragon costs)

this also opens up exploits.

Person A raids cradle B.
Person B kills person A and returns relic to cradle B for reward.
person B reses person A.
Rinse and repeat.

Besides, its a game, raiding for your faction is the reward! :P

no bonus needed....the xp bonus for relics is plenty already....system has been going good for many months now i personally see no reason for a modification :wink:

Not that hard to code it that person "a" could only collect the xp / gold reward once per 24 hour day, per relic. So they'd only get the 3000 xp / 12000 gold reward.

That particular exploit solved :P

Really? So we should add another table to the database that has the playerid plus 7 columns for all the relics so a timestamp entry can be placed there each time a relic is captured? Plus the code to go with it? No thanks.

As it's been said, the relics are a fun side activity and are fully their own reward.

XP bonusses of a raid are plenty if you're in a popular faction.
If you're in, say, Ragnar's Kin,more often then not it's up to you to get your relic back and get a second relic.
And like most people it rarely happens I have time to capture more then one relic, let alone profit from the 5 % xp reward when killing stuff after doing it.
Why not link the reward to stealing and capturing, you have to do both to get it.

the relic system has been discussed in detail in the past and ideas such as that have been suggested --- all and all its tooo complicated to make sme of these changes and in all seriousness you wont notice this miniscule bonus when all is said and done including the time spend/wasted gathering relics in the first place..

what other discussions you may ask ? use the search button, there were too many diffeernt threads, i posted one below

the only time gathering relics is auctually useful is when :

1. there is a large number of faction members on and Willing to capture and defend relics if necessarry
2. when number 1 applies, you then must be planning on spending a few hours or all day (cough SLAVES/DCN cough) playing.

you end up wasting time gathering and you could have gathered even more xp if you had just went and leveled without the bonus instead of getting sucked into the relic game !

heres a very simplistic and quite moronic example:
Imagine you have only 2 hours of time to play this evening:

and, lets assume the following hypothetical numbers:
Lets say : 1 hour of leveling = 1,000xp gained
therefore 2 hours of leveling = 2,000xp gained ---following me so far :wink:

so therefore , 1 hour of leveling + a 50% bonus = 1,500xp

BUT if you spent 1 hour gathering and defending your precious relics to hold onto your bonus - and then only had 1 hour left to level....then you have spent your 2 hours tonight online and only ended up with 1,500xp ....if you had ignored relics, you would have had 2,000xp

all you have to do is add zeros to these numbers :wink:
-- for example you are level 16 and you realllly want to hit level 20 by the end of the night.... with a few wails and/or a party, this can be accomplished in about 2 hours, maybe a bit less.... SO - slap this into my equation above -- and O WHOOPS -- PWND you could have made level 20, but now after 2 hours you are still level 18 because you spent your first hour of gaming goofing off with your high level character gathering and defending relics -- not to mention the time spent logging off to relog and defend your cradel if raided..... :shock: :shock: :shock:

has this ever occured to anyone or is it just me --- :?: :!:

why dont we propose somthing else -- like these below ! *snickers* :lol:
1. making beer and pretzels fall from the sky every time a faction captures a relic
2. or this ! -- your character earns 1/10xp point per second spent with a relic on your back :lol:
3. or even -- when RK captures all of the relics - thousands of ale potions appear at the dwarfs feet...
4. or lets be real radical -- :shock: throw the relic system out of the game :shock: ...i rememebr zing holding a poll once ragarding the relic system.......

But - if you spend one hour getting the relics everyone in your faction gets the XP bonus, not just you. So, you personally might come out short 500xp at the end, but your faction gets a net gain during that second hour that exceeds 500xp.

Which, is entirely the point.

Fatzo is selfish, the message won't get through to him.

The point of the relics is not so YOU can get the bonus, because when its all good and over you probably will have to log off. Nay, its for other things. Its for the glory of your faction, the aide of your faction, and (get this) your faction!

Edit: The thing where thousands of ale potions drop has actually happened for RK, its our reward :D .

Concerning the level 16-20 paragraph, people pre-epic more often than not don't raid. They're better off spending their time leveling so when the time comes, they'll at least be level 30 and useful in the raids. Pre-epic characters can carry relics, be on watch out, but they get killed really easy.
