I know... cringe, flame, whatever. This is a suggestion/idea thread so deal.
Instead of having the transport dragons static just waiting to be killed by relic raiders, why not have a dragon summoning "gong".
You walk up, use the gong and a dragon answers after X period of time. This would accomplish two goals:
1 - The dragons would be available to those who want to use them to actually explore this wonderful world
and
2 - Delay a relic raider long enough for a chaser to catch up. You could even check for a relic and if it is present the delay could be extended.

I still like the idea of dragons not allowing the sacred relics to take flight, just like the ferrymen do not allow such tactics.
The gong idea is not bad. And yes, unfortunately the flames will come to your idea for sure. They tend to appear whenever anyone has an opinion or idea.

Charge 2x as much for a relic carry, and make the dragon mobile, so he is not always in the same spot, put dragons on the same faction, so they will be agro to you if you kill one, till the next server reset, gong idea is nice. Perhaps the dragon should be busy some times, instead of always available. There are a lot of neat things you can do with the dragon, have it give a quest before you can take a ride the first time.

the dragons will not change as far as relics go i would think.... they were put in and allowed in the first place to help with relics.
But the quest idea is good. Mabey make it so you have to do 3 different quests to be able to use em.
Quiloth? Shivlas? Ebby? ..... Makie it so you can earn different area to fly too by killing different dragons.
Make it a point for killing Quiloth. Or ebby. it could easily be done.
Or hell make the ammount paid to fly increase with level. Like 1k a level or something.
Already costs 12k to ride now .... how much constant raiding u think level 40s will do if they know how much it costs.
Might bring back stratgy ..... rather than zerg rush + heal pots.

What exactly is the respawn time for the transport dragons? I mean, if it is a long time, then as far as allowing relics on board or not, someone can easily kill all the dragon transports, preventing anyone from using them.
Basically, you have to look at what purpose the dragon transports serve, why they are being killed, and whether or not the "problem" warrants fixing. The inclusion of dragon transports, like the introduction of the Death Express, was to help reduce the tedium of travel across Aetheria. As far as motives for killing the dragon transports, I don't see any aside from those that stem from the Relic game. Seeing as how this "problem" has been allowed to persist for quite some time, despite the various threads and postings that have been made about it, I don't think the Devs have rated it very high on their To-Do list, if it's on that list at all (it's not game-breaking and it's not an exploit or bug).
It is an annoyance when someone kills the dragon transports. It's kind of similar to the killing of faction NPCs, especially the ones that are responsible for faction job interactions. Unless dragon transport killings are rampant, everyday occurrences that "ruin" the game for a vast majority of players, I don't think anything will be done to "fix" this issue.
Edit: One thing I've done in the past is guard the dragon transport against potential attackers. It's a valid tactic in the Relic game for those who wish to use the dragon transports. Throwing in a bit of RP, maybe a group of vigilantes can form to guard these dragons.

quests would be interesting but i imagine a lot of other quests would be nice to put in first.. like jobs, faction reset, etc.
money is not really an impediment to raiding, and if you make it expensive enough that it IS an impediment.. then you are working at cross purposes to the entire relic concept.
as you mentioned the dragons were put in to encourage raiding, doing anything that would make raiding harder would be self-defeating.
but most importantly.. "if it aint broke dont fix it"
the only thing i'd like to see is automatic respawn on the dragons (on like a boss timer) if they get killed, rather than wait for a reset.
