PvP Etiquette

Hi all.
I'm new to the server, but not to the game. I had an experience tonight that would have been inexcusible on other servers I've played on, and I'm wondering if this is the norm here.
My midlevel group went out to kill some monsters and have some fun. Instead we were attacked by a player who apparently had a grudge against a member of our group. Instead of playing and having fun, I sat and watched for over an hour as this player with Hide in plain sight killed any members of my party who weren't hidden ourselves. Over and over, respawn after respawn until I eventually logged off.
Angry tells were met with "Don't send me tells" or "It's a pvp server, don't like it go somewhere else"
I moderated a pvp neverwinter server for some time, and even on full pvp we would not allow constant harrassment like this. What's more, the Neversummer "Commandments" prevented my group from even getting another character to protect themselves.
I guess I just want to know if this type of thing is acceptable and normal in Neversummer. It certainly wasn't an enjoyable time for anyone in my group.

lol! Yet another satisfied customer!
Anyway. I played by the commandments set forth by the NS4 team. No commandment was broken. As you are new and obviously shocked by this behaviour . I suggest you read them carefully.
You were more than welcome to continue leveling elsewhere but choose to stay and watch? BTW your comments were unacceptable to me in tells and they were SS'd I asked you repeatedly to stop with your inane and very rude chatter. Insulting someone will only worsen a situation.
Also to add the other players didnt complain and were also free to move on elsewhere .
Sorry if my behaviour seemed crude and evil

But I'm a DeathDealer thats what we do. You either run from us or fight us. Also considering I never attacked you being a member of the Shadow Legion and all and a great part responsible for that relic bonus you were getting you would think You would have been a little more grateful...
Its War . People die everyday. Get over it....
-ps sry everyone about the public flame

I think the 'problem' is, that most people on the server are polite , mature and friendly so when you start leveling up you kind of expect this of everyone and think the server is for these kind of players. Players that don't actually need a rule to not kill off some low level people. People you meet party up with you, help you out and are friendly.
But then when you keep playing your perception changes, eventually you meet some.. well other person, who thinks its fun to show his lvl 40 can kill a lvl 5 and you think: surely this is not acceptable and all the other negative stuff that comes with it.
And then you find out this was the original intent of the people that made the server and chances are the guy that killed you was a DM. You're suppose to take your beating no matter how unfair it is. And there are actually rules to prevent you from making it more fair by logging on an equal level toon.
anyway, what I'm trying to say is that NS is still great to play on and Rainswept just try to accept theres different kind of people playing with all their own sets of morals and values.
Just ignore the bragging of the high lvl toons killing off lower lvls, as you can see from Alkapwn's reaction he only seems to enjoy it more when someone complains.

I certainly didn't sit and watch by choice, I was trying to play and get some xp, which is considerably harder when trying to do right by the people on my team and help them.
So all he has to do is choose an "area"? In this case every board in or near Skara? It was made clear to me he wanted to kill particular people in my party and chased us across multiple boards. Even in the one case where someone killed him he just came back to find us again. So it's interesting that neither he nor anyone in my team mentioned this to me. I would happily have gone somewhere else to play. "This is my area" is not at all the same as refusing to allow other players to enjoy their evening.
I am not at all interested in playing guild politics etc. Enjoying faction separation for raids, choosing to help out teammates, having some fun PvP when everyone wants to play it are all great, and I'm looking forward to that in a server. I'm not looking forward to having to wonder if some person in my group is the target of some guild and that's going to cause me not to be able to continue with my evening of gaming.
Lawyering and loopholes are the answer here? Really? I went back after reading the above posts to try to determine why I didn't remember reading that. Turns out I had thought I didn't need to. You see, I read the commandments in order to govern my own behavior, and when I read the first line of that commandment it was so glaringly obvious I knew I'd never need to read further, because I would never dream of breaking it.
X - Thou shalt not harass another player so that it disurpts that player's enjoyment of the game.
People play to find loopholes to THIS? Gaining nothing but the knowledge you've prevented other people from having fun?

its sad but true. players play to find loopholes in any rule that they don't like at the time. i've seen in it multiple servers across multiple games....it gets to be part of some of the gamers mission in life.
the uniqueness of ns4 is that at level 1 you choose a side in a war...we offer no safe havens to get used to how the server works or safety while at low lvls. the server is at war and by playing on the server....you have already chosen a side.
i encourage you to tough it out for a bit and don't let the harshness of the past nights foolery make you leave. in your time on ns4 you will see many aspects of personalities unlike many other games or worlds....eventually you will come to understand some and loathe others. its what keeps the war going.

Wont add much here, except to say that I have/do on occasion take over an area.
The key point here in the area take over is this, and many people try to say im taking over an area but do it all wrong -
Its 1 screen, thats it thats all. So in your example He can stay on 1 skara screen and take it over (1st ones prolly the best for defending purposes) if u keep returning to that 1 screen he can womp you all day non stop.
However should you move to a different skara screen he is not allowed to womp you more then 3 times in 6hrs. Hence 1 of the fav places to take over in the past and indeed for myself is darkforest
I can kill you if you get past into ogre pass but once i hit 3kills thats it. By chasing you up ogre pass for the 4th kill i begin to fall under the harrassing rule you mentioned and thus should be in danger of getting a rather large dm boot jamed up you know where.
essentially its 3 pk's in 6 hrs or unlimited on the 1 screen only, not im taking over the earth plane lol or some such !
Hope this helps.
P.S. Like the guy above said ask on shout for some kind soul to assist you, atleast in the old days 4 and 5 people would come and it really turned into a good 1 hr + pk fest as more and more ppl joined on both sides. Or level somewhere else, yes it can be hard but each lvl bracket has atleast 1 alternative to go to if someones blocking it from you.

Quoted for truth. I have been multi killed to an extent where I have loged off to cool down, but the fact is that this is the most fun server I've ever played on, and there is no way I'm gona let one player ruin the hoers of fun I've had both with pvp and pvm on this server

I see this is part collateral damage and part retribution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy. If you are in a party and the party is subsequently attacked and killed but you survive due to the attacker sparing you for what ever reason, maybe you should rethink who you party with.
If you were partied with allies this would be a moot point. If you must consort with the enemy then I would suggest exploring more to find the other level appropriate areas to gain XP, there are more than a few for each level break ie; 1-5,6-9,7-12 and so on and so forth. Now there are multiple areas to level all the way to 40 as opposed to just FD in the past for 16-25.

That's the Game Rainswept. It's unfortunate that you had to be in that party and i would have more than happily accepted you into my party given you were the same level as I. I have no beef with you or anyone else in that party. One of the toons that you were playing with did have a contract out on his head though so my duty was thus.
Most players been that have been around here for awhile know me. They know I dont skirt around the commandments or even harass people. Your attitude towards the situation was wholly uncalled for. If your first tell was insulting and uninformed. You should treat people how you want to be treated

Its nothing to worry about Rainswept, he ran multiple times from my druid crafter. If I were out there with a PvP toon it would have been no contest. . .

My attitude was informed by observation of the situation. Common sense tells you that people don't want to be attacked with no chance of fighting back (A reason other PvP servers I've played on completely outlaw HiPS). Don't get me wrong, I get that you have a good build and like to use it, and I'm all for it. Sneak up, maybe even kill the whole party. Hell even if you do it twice to show you can do it even if they are ready... I'll buy that. I will even go so far as to say that I can understand "having a contract" and making a point of hunting someone down and killing them once a day. All in good fun. When you harass people who just want to be left alone for hours at a time, IMO you're over the line.
My roommate watched a 2 1/2 hour movie while I was in that party trying to get XP. I waited more than an hour and across 3 screens before saying anything to you after my initial /talk which was nothing more that "OK, you've made your point, mind if we go play now?" or words to that effect. Yes, after the first full hour of my time you wasted I was more than a little angry, and I think justifiably so.

Lies ofcourse. But I expect nothing less from a traitorous leach with no honour whatso ever. Keep it in game and dont be such a sore loser. No contest.. I agree

I'm glad you know your betters
