Monsters that are only partialy there
Monsters that are only partialy there
I was killed today in Frostdale by what had to be a group of artic wolves, except that I could not see them or target them. Even when I held down tab, nothing appeared (no name or anything). I think this must be a lag related problem, as I've seen it before, but only where 1 creature out of a mob would be in this state. In those cases I would still be able to kill the nonexistent creature by waiting for my toon to automaticly target it when it attacked me. I've never commented on it before because it didn't seem like a big deal, but when a whole mob appears like this a kills you and you lose xp it seems more serious. If anyone else has seen this phenomenon, please post about it here so it will be looked into. If any DM's know why this occurs or any way to prevent it, please explain. Thanks.

Um . . . run, run far, run fast would be what I would think best option. Never had a time where any amount of mobs would not appear without a name. . . invisible somtimes but always able to locate with tab.

This happens to me, atleast once a day and i believe it to be a graphic bug. Occassionaly a party will be going up the mountain for example and at times one person will stop and say, cant see that chunker or watever while everyone else can. It has never happened to me with a whole mob as you say, but im yet to find any solution to this problem.
As a side note this happened several times with my crafting wizard and even when i cast igms for example the missile flies off the screen at wierd angles and NEVER hits the "not there" monster.
Anyways your not alone, its kinda common.

Never had that happen myself, but I'd advise checking for a video card update.
Good luck.

Yeah, this does seem to happen occasionally. I wouldn't say as often as once a day, but perhaps once or twice a week i'll encounter an invisible foe. It doesn't seem to be video card related, but probably bioware related... but who knows.

I've seen this too. I'm watching the others in the party attack something and I can't see it.

I have perhaps the crappiest, cheapest video card I can get. I get all sorts of random poly's and wedges and lines all though my screen that sometimes makes playing akward...... But I've yet to not be able to see a mob. Perhaps your video cards are too uber and expensive

I can tell you that it's not a video card issue. The basis to this claim is that the model for the 'non-existant' creature isn't clickable either. If it were a driver/video issue, the model would still be clickable in game physics, but the card would be failing to display the model for whatever reason.
Instead, this is more a function of lag than anything. It occurs most often when darkness is involved; and having drow or teifling darkness will increase the chances of it happening. Basically, when you round a corner or someone comes in/out of invis/dark they have to have a flag for it and that flag needs to get sent to each player as the status changes. If you happen to lag that one time action, then you are stuck with the player/npc in the invis/dark state.
As mentioned, players who never play using racial darkness will experience this exponentially less often than those who play mostly drow.

Re: Monsters that are only partialy there
Actually I believe it may be a different issue. I have had this happen on other servers as well that didn't have darkness abilities and nobody used darkness spells very often either. I do recall specific monsters that it would happen more frequently with so I believe it probably is a Bioware issue.
I have experienced the problem you mention and that is the Drow Darkness issue that happens after you transition and can't see your own darkness yet monsters still dissapear as they should in your "darkness" if you don't have UV.

Yeah I think it's a resource loading gui thing. Relog may help (say if it's the lich king). Otherwise I just hope I can cleave into them or AoO into attacking or use area abilities. This has been a problem since the beginning, not sure if it's been better/worse at different times (NWN problem, not NS problem).

Reloading the zone has always worked for me, if thats not possible face your camera away from the creature in question for long enough for the game to forget about it. Swing back around and it should reload the graphics
