No player list...
No player list...
I just want to state for the record that the latest change, the removal of the player list, is a BAD idea.
Plenty of people play this server because they have friends here and this is how some stay in touch considering some live states or even countries apart from each other.
If you remove the player list you are removing another thread that keeps NS4 a closer community.
Why change this now?
It didn't seem to be a problem in the previous 3 years I have been playing here.

Re: No player list...
So has it been a issue for people, other seeing what makes up there build and what lvl they are?
Or do the DMs not whant us to know that there online?

Re: No player list...
All it is doing is keeping you from seeing who is on before you login, which blocks you from seeing character names, character levels, build level spread. You still see how many are currently on the server.
You can still access the player list in game once you login to see which friends are playing.

Re: No player list...
i'm not quite fond of it, i don't use it to see if friends and foes are on, the regular player list in game will tell you that. i usually used it to tell me what toon to hop on. if i seen a bunch of level 20's i hop on that toon and get a party going kinda thing. i'm an agressive party supporter, i'd find out if you were my level and i'd just start throwing out invites haha. but i guess a shout will do the same thing. just an extra step...
i haven't seen the change yet but from what i understand the levels are removed from the list at login so if that's true then yeah, but if it would still show a total level i'm find with that.

Re: No player list...
Mixed feelings on this. Non-PvP point of view. I do like to check for friends on and see if I have a character of a compatible level when I login. Not concerned with foes or what build someone has. The PvPers do want to know what their enemies have on so they can choose the best build to fight them. This change does go in line with a previous change of not being able to examine characters or monsters in game. I expect this is to promote more PvP since there should be more of an unknown factor when confronting an enemy instead of knowing that your level 40 will crush the opposing level 10. For all you non-building PvP copycats ROFLMAO.
Adapt or die.

Re: No player list...
I typically log on, look at the player list to see if anyone I know is on, if not then I go to a different server. Owell, it is what it is. I dont agree with many of the changes that have been implemented, but as I have no power or say then I simple chalk it up to if it gets to be to much then I will just go back to Avlis full time. I will at least give the new changes a shot and take it from there.

Re: No player list...
I have slightly mixed fealing about this. I think in a PvP environment, it favors the players whos on all the time as they will know what ppl play from previous encounters. Those who dont play as much how ever will be on the short end of this stik.
Re: No player list...
I have changed my mind. I now like this change, as it allows me to soak XP from parties of lower levels without them knowing who is doing it. I can now say my 14th level rogue is a 9th level dex based fighter and no one will be the wiser. YAY for me.
And I can see why the DM/Devs like it, it allows them to spy and do sneaky stuff. And no one can say "I saw such and such on, so it must have been him who was playing favorites with the relics." Or something to that effect...
Because we all know nothing like that could ever happen here.
P.S. I know we cannot exploit the flaws in the game or server, but no ever said we can't exploit the players.

maybe it allows players to finally use the options allowed to them to finally play their alignments and play their chars with a little less "open knowledge". you know....use your char knowledge, not your player knowledge

Re: No player list...
You could always go make a level 80 Death Knight on WoW for $15 a month.

Gotta admit, it makes me laugh seeing all these PvP'ers going "But I used this to check to see if my friends are on!
" lol...no, it took the guesswork of PvP out of the equasion for you. Worst case scenario, you might lose to someone that was bigger than you thought they were. A skinned knee and a bruised ego, oh no...
Gee, I guess you'll have to just fight more to see what level people are. Why complain about that? You don't like fighting?
Gawdz...if Deputy Dog had a dollar for every time you ingrates whine about something, this game would be the best-funded PW to grace NWN1. Golden krunk cups for all the devs and the DMs will fly to your house in their G5 and slap you in person when you do something wrong.

LOL now that was a whiny rant.
All I got from that was " your opinion differs from mine so WAH WAH WAH." Good job on getting YOUR point across.

Re: No player list...
So log in and press 'P'.... problem solved. Player list in game is still working, just the one outside of game got removed... the only reason for it was metagaming. If you make a great build, its easier to keep it secret.I actually would just like to know who is on. I don't mind the rest of the info being missing.

Re: No player list...
i spread secret sauce on all my builds.
Re: No player list...
Blystos my dear misguided...well friend isnt the word...hmmm...competitor...nope thats not it either. I will just go with what Gornickthy said.
You obviously missed the sarcasm dripping from my last post. I agree with Gornickthy 100% I wouldnt mind the level/class info going bye-bye myself. You see Blystos I dont need to see what level someone is to engage them in PvP. If they are red and I dont know or respect them I usually engage. Sometimes I win sometimes I lose. But it does not matter to me if I die because the respawn button is a click away. I also dont need to ask for a rescue because that same button is still the same distance away... a click.
As far as my soaking XP...that isn't really an issue since I either solo or dual-log, you see I am kinda of what you'd call anti-social. So I definitely would not fit in your CLOD organization with all your nicey nice cupcake parties and your getting to know your inner child meetings.
Linux, the list is more to see if we even want to log in. These days seem to be tighter than those of days past and we (whoever we applies to) have to schedule our time accordingly. If I saw a friend was on I log in get a little XP shoot the breeze and do some guild stuff. Another side note is that if you had a problem it was nice to try and get a hold of a DM instead of going through PM's on the boards. Because some issues are minor and take a second but put into a PM, you have to schedule a time to be when that DM is on in order to get your toon out of a wall or some other minor issue.
Tep, I want some of that secret sauce. Just because someone knows the breakdown of the classes doesnt mean they can make the same cake. If they suck as a builder then they are gonna suck as a copycat.
