Keep in mind that there are other summons you have access to with wizard spells, instead of just using the Summon Creature spells. At 4th level, instead of the Bison, you could try Shadow Conjuration. At 5th level you could try Greater Shadow Conjuration or Lesser Planar Binding. At 6th level, you could try Shades or Planar Binding. At 7th level, you could try Mordenkainen's Sword. At 8th level, you can use Greater Planar Binding or Create Undead, and at 9th level you can use Gate.

You may be pleased with some of those. I particularly favor any of them that carry weapons, because you can use your Flame Weapon spell on them along with any other buffs you like to use.
TSS Toons: Quillaryl [fletcher] / Lotus Path [tailor] / Reverend Oak [scrolls] / Squire Ashe [armor] / Ratto Slyhand [locksmith]
CLAD Toons: Sanctus Lux [paragon of virtue]
Non-guild crafters: Verdant Arboreus [leather] & Newton Spellbender [arcane]

Does the Silver Strider possess the Power Cosmic?

Lesser Planar Binding is dependant on your alignment. If your good aligned and get the hound, your lucky. Not sure how the evil one is, but the lantern is a usless floating ball which looks cool. If you have Evocation focus, Mordenkainen's Sword is great. It will tear up anything you encounter when you get it, atleast if your a pure caster. Also this one has a sword that can be buffed. If your good aligned, the greater planar binding is an astral deva, then planetar as a lvl 9 spell and finaly the solar.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

For a cleric, having something that packs around a couple extra Hammer of the Gods and Lesser Missile Storms is far from useless. It also casts slow, cloud of bewilderment, and has some healing spells.

Far from useless, IMHO...but then I do have the tendency to just wanna be contrary.
