I think I kinda said I was lvl 1. As far as I know and im quite sure I have not recieved any bonuses.

Bargeld wrote:This brings up a very important rule here on NS4... always check your character sheet in-game. Following this rule is to never trust it ;)

I know this seems cryptic, but the charsheet is correct 95% of the time, although there are a few instances where it will lie to you (you will learn them fom experience because they are few and far between and really not game breakers).

In this case the damage bonus from song is correct. This is a custom behavior on NS4, as bards receive a special self-buff for damage. The damage listed in the table that you see is the damage bonus given to others in the group. For the self-buff progression, see here:
http://www.nsrealm.com/public/ns/viewto ... 7#p1013207
So I was right. So according to that up to lvl 6 I get +2 sonic damage? I may decide to get another lvl of Bard just yet.

From what I understand I don't need to spend extra point on performance either.

the bonus sonic damage for pure bards was removed.

I also built a level 1 test bard, and bard song is working as intended. +1 reflex and bonus hp equal to my perform score. There is also a +0 damage bonus listed on the character sheet. There is no bonus sonic damage either.

This is where your bonus damage is coming from, look at your character sheet, not the icons at the top of the screen.

I would trust rufio on this one, especially if he has tested. Disregard the link to the self-buff damage that I posted, as that apparently is no longer valid info. I would guess that you saw the damage icon, but the charsheet said +0, as stated previously by others.

And I'm not sure what you were 'right' about. In hindsight, the original reply by alka (the link to the wiki) was the only answer really needed. Aside from that, you just needed an explanation as to why you had buffs from a friendly NPC, yet insisted that bardsong was broken a couple times.

Many are glad to help, but most of us try to keep the winning/losing to the battlefields of Aetheria

Well it seems he was right after all. I looked at the charsheet and nothing. I also tried killing some bugbears and the battle dialogue said nothing about sonic damage.

No it wasn't. If I see a damage icon on the screen I need to question what its doing there and I need an explanation.
Bargeld wrote: Aside from that, you just needed an explanation as to why you had buffs from a friendly NPC, yet insisted that bardsong was broken a couple times.
Except I wasn't getting buffs from a friendly NPC, again if the wiki links states that I don't get a damage bonus and I see a damage icon the natural thing is to question the validity of the link. You then posted a link that states I get +1 damage its only now you've stated to me that the link isn't valid.

Excuse me? This is simply a misunderstanding. Don't try to jump down my throat and start trying to accuse me of starting trouble. As stated before there was a damage icon on the screen that contradicted the link. Whats making me slightly irritated is that you then posted a link that verified there was some damage increase, then you're wondering why I said I was right. Even then I didn't take your word for it and I went to try and check the validity of your information.

I don't mind being told that im wrong but the questions I made were valid and decent questions to ask. I was also polite about the questions I asked. My behaviour was only a logical reaction to the information presented.

I cant speak for the posters... but after two years of reading this forum, my personal impression was that the posts were friendly with no swan dives into your gullet. There is a constant degree of freindly antagonizm between ppl of diffrent factions, and even more so within our own some times.

I would bet a +2 book that no one was intending to inslut you on a personal level. We all enjoy the constant influx of new players, and while we might be a lil curt with responces, its namely cuase we understand this world is not for everyone. Therefore our efforts might be invain if the player leaves in a week or two. Doesnt mean we wont still help each new player that comes along, but our paitence level might not be as high as it once was.

It is an extreme PvP server, and can be a lil ruthless at times. My humble advice, always do your best to not take any of it personally. Weither or not any slight was intended to be an insult, your find your enjoyment lvl higher if you keep a degree of detatchment tween you and your toons or posts on forum.

Hopefully you will enjoy your time here and enjoy the freindships that will come with it. Welcome to Aetheria, and the Wiki is a new players best guilde to life here.

Thats probably because your a nice person and don't feel the need to insult other posters. Having a bit of fun and joke is fine but what also happened has nothing to do with him feeling that the world isn't for me. Your friend basically decided to distort what happened and used it an excuse to insult me. Sure there are more important things than playing an online game but when people start lying about what actually happened im going to get irritated.

When something unusual is happening in-game, it is usually good practice to check your character sheet and run tests on enemies or the combat dummies to see exactly what is happening, exactly what bonuses your are and are not getting, and so on. I think it may have rubbed people the wrong way just a bit when you come in here saying that bard song is broken and that our advice is wrong when it didn't seem like you had sufficiently investigated the problem.

Saying something like:
I think I kinda said I was lvl 1
when asked for more information sounds pretty condescending. I was kind of annoyed by that.

There is also nothing wrong with going on a forum and asking questions and if the information given is contradictory its natural for me to question it. It also seems that at a certain point in the discussion there was no real way to conclusively verfiy the effects ( until sonic damage was mentioned, which is when I checked it). it At first I thought it was just simply a misunderstanding but looking back at my posts I think I have even more reason to be right.

In my very first post I stated I already read the wiki. After I stated that I read the wiki im being told to read it again. How does that sound to you, doesn't that sound condescending?

Do you also not think I should question the validity of the wiki if what happens on the screen contradicts what in the wiki? Not only was there a damage icon on the screen there was an extra HP icon and that actually worked because you could see it working. It was also suggested that guards gave me the bonuses I actually checked that and it wasn't the case. So at this point in time im being given contradictory information and I've actually tried to verify the information. Don't you think if you were in my position you would have started to question your reliability? Simply stating looking at the charset simply doesn't help since you made alterations to the programming ( not that theres anything wrong with that) means there is doubt wether whats being displayed is actually whats going on.

Whats really infuriating is that Bargeld then posts a wiki that reinforced my suspicions and was actually arguing my case he then turns around and the has a go at me....thats hypocrisy.

You did turn out to be right in the end, but its not just about being right its how you put your point across and if im given contradictory information and people are being condesending you can't blame me for my reaction.
