Bigger Picture Thoughts

All I have to say is that 'new' ice giants are weird. I never go there anymore.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
Tougher areas should be more rewarding. For instance HoK drops decent gear, bosses drop some nice things too, and so they are harder than dorfs. Bit more CR i think. Water, air, forest could use a tuning of some kind.
As for easy exp that has become common, i like it if i'm there, lol.
on a more serious note: i was leveling with some ppl over a period of time. As i'm in a different time zone, i missed an event where exp runs fast, so i lost contact with those players in terms of levels, and have a hard time finding a party.
-> twice.
So it saves time or some, messes it up for others. Also, i dont think ppl should be allowed to lvl a difficult build over night. You want something that is insane hard to lvl up - it shouldn't be free.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
the only thing that stops low lvl pvp between players is the players themselves. it used to be that when you found players from another faction anywhere on the mod you tried to destroy them. now everyone is so obsessed with getting xp they hold hands and sing together constantly.
i engaged in some lvl 3 pvp a little bit back on a build and wiped a guy out. it was fun and interesting because the mobs around you make a difference in the fight. for my trouble of being the victor this player venge logged me......twice.

true. You'll be happy to know that DD seems to be playing red=dead more, at least whenever they come across me (they probably just hate meAmoenotep wrote:the only thing that stops low lvl pvp between players is the players themselves. it used to be that when you found players from another faction anywhere on the mod you tried to destroy them. .

Some players like power levelling and playing for 40*, some players like group levelling and the journey as monkey described. It's a big server, there's room for both, and the full spectrum in between spectrum in between.
A nice thing about the original post is he described his preferred play style, then showed that he is organizing so that he and players with similar preferences can get together. For DM involvement, it's not really my place to say, but I'd be really surprised if the staff weren't receptive to working with a party as you described - they seem to really like doing stuff with the players.
Also re the one-way door suggestion on efreets, I think making areas more inconvenient is not a good way to go, in particular levelling areas (bosses are another matter, granted); IIRC Ice Giants was changed because it was causing server lag and to prevent exploits, not because it was a great place to run in circles endlessly for hours.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
Great suggestions.
Personally, I only play for the end game and pvp. I'll run giant mountain for 6 hours straight if its the fastest way to get xp. I'll be watching a movie or balancing my checkbook while i run in circles because it is excessively boring, but all pvm is boring in my opinion. Once you have fought these lil critters once, you know what they are going to do. Counteracting their "plans" is fairly simple as they do the same thing everytime. Taking new players to these areas can be entertaining because you never know what the new player will do. Shamed yelling at everyone in party for not doing it his way is equally entertaining. Maybe i just played NS 3.5 for too long.
There isnt very much lowbie pvp because its not fun (for some people, it doesnt bother me a bit) to initiate a fight with a fellow lvl 10, only to have a lvl 40 buffer (who was camped one zone away) come screaming in to save the day. Thats my guess anyway, i normally attack everyone i see, if i think i can win that is
Bargeld is about as evil as my little sister, but he makes a good point. I dont want us all to get along.

Dammit, you must have seen me let that Sluppi fellow live yesterday in avendel crossing... he was untagged and had a b-sword on his shoulder, 2-handed as a smurf, so i took pity on him. Although i DID take great pleasure when he asked where the dragon was at, then tried to hitch a ride and the dragon called him a wealthless peasant. It totally made it worthwhileburrahobbit wrote:Bargeld is about as evil and my little sister, but he makes a good point. I dont want us all to get along.

Of course this was 2 maps after running into TORMTAR and shoving his goody goody-ness where the sun don't shine

I have 2 little sisters - I'm afraid of both of them. Their heads spin 360 degrees, and do 40d6 pea soup damage with their breath weapon.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
I admit, I also like the endgame aspect as well.....and the PvP. PvM is also fun, and a lot of the planes are done so well. I for one, am guilty of spending too much time on this game....ha ha....can't help myself.
I do agree with Mix though, I think some of the recent xp events should be tamed down. Reaching 40 should be an achievement, particularly for ecl 3 builds.
I like the point Ashe made......if the devs are looking for suggestions on new ideas......new areas, and possibly new subraces would be a lot of fun. It seems as if there was some dialogue in the past about adding new races.
Tep.....ha ha ha.....thanks for that gem. You were venge logged twice? I guess that guy didn't recognize your login. Too funny. If you are looking for some 5 level PvP, bring your toon to Daeron. No wait.....stay out of Daeron!
I think there has been a lot of PvP lately.....without any of the unecessary taunting/shouting/whatever. There has been a resurgence in the SL player population. Very easy to find a fight in Menzo, or Garagoth for that matter. In addition, I have noticed that the HNS crew have been active as of late. Good times.

I think I can say the marathon wasn't just a gift by the dms. Unless some of us who could co-lvl a char up, it was hard work, staying 20 hours till the end. I for one needed some days to recover
.
And Haddon Mirk is almost a planned stop for my lvling. Ordean Caves and the Crypt are quite handy.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
The balor events straight after reset can clearly be seen as not free XP, but as "oh. Tep is away, so we get to feel sorry for you"
The best balor events, imo, were Baphomets (?) where he'd make balors with DC 60 implode, so it'd be a hectic scramble.
However, epic pvm is always challenging, as all it takes is one or two wrong moves or failed saves and its all over. Shamed is funny, but he's correct, as Daral can attest.

As for having a wide range of toons leveling, I like to keep a few in that stage.. but not too many, for me its best that I concentrate on a limited number, most offten working them in spurts. This gives me a chance to get into a rythem with each toons means of combat. So that later on when I log it as a 40 for PvP or PvM, I know what to do with it. Having a uniform method of inventory and quick slot set up, also helps to jump between toons.
New area or area adjustments, Im for it. DE has evolved over the last 9 months a few times, both lay out and NPC powers and thier AI.
New subraces also open many doors and windows.

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
Hehe . . you just had to go there didn't you Bargeld. You killed my dex heavy OP CoT build. Now I feel sad and picked on . .I'm going to go pout.
I know that I am gun-shy just blasting the first red toon I see because I do not want to go through the abuse over shout or in tells how I killed a lowbie w/ my higher level toon. For me I just don't want to deal with that; my work day is hard enough as it is w/ the adults who act like they are 8 year olds.
I think the original post has some great ideas. I know some people in the past have set up specific scenarios that I had fun in. This is where a dedicated group spends an hour or two going through a RP-ish adventure.

I miss the spontaneous PvP; just like the example that Bargeld brought up. I was running out of Evenshire and saw the dasterly DD. Red = dead and I ended up dead. Most times when I see red either the forces join up for PvM or split ways.Bargeld wrote:Of course this was 2 maps after running into TORMTAR and shoving his goody goody-ness where the sun don't shine

Re: Bigger Picture Thoughts
Balor events should be extremely rare and short lived. Ofcourse with the exception of the rollback a month or 2 ago which was much appreciated and a very soothing bandaid.
As for pvp almost everychance i get i'm attacking reds regardless of level or forthought. On many occasions i get a tell from one of my evil mates "Why did you kill my crafter?" hehe
I've had so many players battlelog on me its embarassing. I wonder if its possible to have a player instakilled if he/she logs while aggro'd *hint hint*
Would also reduce some of the meta farming tactics ive seen some player use
