NWN Crashing
Is it possible that Linux might be a reason that my NWN keeps on crashing? My Linux and Windows OS are on the same HDD, I didnt have the cables back then to support 2 HDD, now am mounting a backup hdd for my Linux. But am just wondering if it can be any cause to NWN crashing? When I say nwn crashing it means nwn just suddenly lags to death and my pc hangs up. But it cannot be the RAM or Video card since when I use other heavy applications, they don't hang.
Is it possible that the hdd is the problem? But why is it so isolated to NWN? Hmm...
All help is appreciated. =D

Shiny,
Your problem sounds like a memory leak; patch 1.63 is supposed to fix a few of these when it arrives. What are the specs on your machine? Do you have plenty of RAM? Does it happen more frequently when there is a lot going on on the screen? Our group crashed one of our members last night by gettng too many sparkles flashing around our characters (four people buffing in near proximity.) My old vid cards without enough onboard memory would crash in this situation too.
Andrew's problem sounds more like lag. I've had this behaviour immediately before a server disconnected time out error message.
Just some suggestions about what may be happening.

Hmm... yeah, must be b/c of all the visuals. For example, it froze 4x in about 1 hr at dwarves where lag/tag are. There were just a bunch of models on the screen, a couple pcs with particle effects, and then my flashy stuff.
Video card is relatively new, fx 5600 with 128mb of ram. But the ram is pretty sucky, like 512mb of SDRAM.

memory leak? how so?
i am only experiencing this now... i mean before with 1.62 it was okay...
unless there are new versions of 1.62 that screws up...
since i had to reformat my pc to make a clean slate so i had to download it again hehe.
Vid card is ATI 9200 128mb
Memory is sucky at 384 ddr
my hdd is Hitachi Desktar 7250k or something... but damn if hdd is the problem.... i mean its dang IBM and as class as Western Digital...
and reviews are damn well good compared with maxtor and seagate...
and running other games like C&C Generals (which is more heavy than NWN), Battlefield, etc.... they didnt pose any problems at all except for the usual lag here and there.

The crash happens during anytime of the game but its not on the first 10 mins.... like when i press TAB to see if there are enemies and hidden objects while moving... it may crash suddenly... or buffing to extensively... or fighting too extensively also... or in a screen with too much visuals... hmm... hmm...

hmm a sudden change of things...
it's not hdd
its's not video card..
but whenever i run applications (games mostly) i tend to crash and need to reboot after some minutes...it's no longer isolated with NWN but with specific games now like grand theft auto III that i tried to test out my machine on hmm...
could it be
the Heat? fan system? my cpu goes as high as 60C when playing games and normally is around 48C on normal applications...
or
RAM? but they are working perfectly....hmm
or
cant be motherboard... if its fook up... i cant even post here ya know. hehe.

You very well could be cooking your cpu causing the failsafe to kick in.

RAM is tricky, you could have a single bad address at the far end that the machine doesn't access (or doesn't access frequently) during normal operations.
I'd look at cooling first though.

I get a crash to desktop somewhat frequently. I am a power user so usually I am always in monitor of my resources, and with an xp2500+, a gf4 ti4200, and 512Mb of 333Mhz ram i'd be fine.
I know for certain i've had exceptions frequently On the second floor of the Giant caves. I am unsure if this is related.
