Not only all the unneccesary saving is lagging the server, it is extremely annoying as well! At first I thought my char gets saved when I rest or use the book or log out. But it turns out my char gets saved when anybody on the server does any of those things.
Idea: Not having the bloody server save my char every round

From the FAQ at http://www.nsrealm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1242#save
YOUR character is saved when it does one of these things. The server doesn't save EVERY character every time someone does one of these things.When is my character saved?
Characters in NS4 are saved (file written to the vault and location stored in the database) whenever one of the following occurs:
* Entering a new area
* Resting
* Binding your character
* Picking up an item
* Dropping an item
* Death or Near-Death (bleeding)
* Using the Neversummer Diary item
Berronar Truesilver, The Revered Mother
Domains: Good, Healing, Law, Protection

Domains: Good, Healing, Law, Protection

That might be what it says in the FAQ but it is not how it is working today. I am a shifter and I am "shifted" or "saved" allot even when I am doing nothing other than moving around or talking. I loose all merged items in my shifted form shortly after I change form from human to something else. The save bug would not be that critical if it worked like it says in the FAQ. Now it happens often at random time intervals

Even though you are DM, you are mistaken. My character gets saved just by standing around. I was lvl 8 druid was gonna take shifter next level but when I changed into a bear once to carry more stuff I would keep getting shift animaton which occures when character is getting saved. Result: losing item properties and cleared action queue. Since I don't like reshifting ever 3 sec or when I change area I have decided I need more druid levels first.LadyCheron wrote:From the FAQ at http://www.nsrealm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1242#save

aren't there known bugs about shifters in regards to saving?

Besides the actions you take, the server Does an auto-save by itself. It is a feature of all NWN servers. This saving system is just in place because server saves are less frequent than a PC going through all those actions. When a server auto-saves, all characters are saved.Spura wrote:Even though you are DM, you are mistaken. My character gets saved just by standing around. THAT, spura, is why your shifter loses his merged items.
Test it. Shift into a form with a friend along. Don't even move. Have your friend rest. The instant he sits down do you lose your merge? If so I may be incorrect, but if your merges don't get lost then his resting does NOT save your character.
Yes it's a character save.
All characters in a public PW have to be saved when items are handled or someone logs out...lobby Bio to take the exploits out of the engine and we can change this policy.

Thanks for the explanation.
I was not sure if all the saves were a bug or what. I also believed after reading the FAQ that my character was only saved when he performed one of the actions described.
I still like to play a shifter on this awesome PW even with the known bugs in 1.62
Thanks allot all devs and DM's for making me addicted to NS
