Studded Leather Armor

Post by Delmair »

Just one of many different inconsistencies i see with DnD v3.0 and 3.5 rules regarding armor here. I like the idea that the chain shirt being ac4 maxdex of 4 is medium armor. GREAT change, was overpowered anyway, but making studded leather ac3 maxdex 4? it is maxdex 5 in the paper and pen version. i also noted that "mastercraft" armors don't have their check penalty reduced. this also mean that "mastercraft" weapons don't have a +1 to strike? seems strange to me.

Otherwise, i've been playing here about a week, and it's lots of fun. keep up the good work.

You're playing Neverwinter Nights. This is not DnD 3.0 or 3.5 as out of the user's handbook. This is BASED off of 3.0 rules. We cannot change the armor types without hakpacks. Studded leather is 3/4 and is Light, Chain shirt is 4/4 and is medium. The heavier the armor you get, the less dex bonus you see and the higher the base AC. This is due to it being a video game as opposed to pen and paper. There are some 3.5esque changes, but this is not going to conform to your PnP sessions in many ways.

As far as mastercraft and etc. This server is basically a custom creation. It will deviate from the usual conventions of PnP. Mastercraft or masterworks is indeed the name of some items, but it does not really follow those conventions. Certain things need to be adjusted for the fact this game's pace is 100 fold what a PnP session is. Engine limitations also apply to the removal of check penalties, so no luck there.

Even in original NWN there is no mastercraft or masterwork. Just sword +1-+20. Same with armors. The official campaign is very...hmmm....generic.

And I would add...

...that the original campaign was incredibly easy. Any DnD veteran could cake walk through it. Once you got a hold of the cape with freedom and the helm with mind spell-immunity and then the amulet with immunity to disease/poison/ability-drain/level-drain it got really boring. I would love to see someone redo the original campaign with a more diverse and not-overpowered set of items.
