Spell changes. Questions
Hello all.
I'm coming from NS3, even if i was playing a year ago, and started playing NS4 yesterday. I cant find my old teamate from the CoT and i take this post as an opportunity to yell : where are ya guys !!?! =)
Well letz go straight now : I've passed my first day reading board and i cant find a post concerning Spell changes (the one i found was empty). I read the recent infos about the Shields' Spells (how sad) and lenghth duration on StoneSkin's category spells. I'm aware about summons but i'd really appreciate any infos about others spells.
I always play Sorc and during a beta test, it often ends by being screwed cause you were not aware about that "spellcraft's script" raising ur damage or DC or whatever, or that this spell uses D10dmg instead of D6 dmg. Any infos welcome !!
Thx for the hand !!!
PS : oh yea i choosed the MA as home faction. I saw that PM was only available to them but i was wondering if i can take darkknight level too as it is noticed nowhere ?!?

ouch
Not really complaining but damn we are far far far away from NS3 policies where fun was the priority. For now i only read nerf for caster class. Haste changes was the first, now shield and now buff duration mean u'll passed ur whole life resting after killing few mobs.
I like the non-cheesing possibility with faction restrictions (no more 29sorc/PM10/Pally1 fighting in DBG with still spell), i like the huge world, i like the PvP orientation of this module, but i hate painfull gameplay. I do this to refresh me. It sounds like i'm whining damn. In other terms, i want to say that i'm 100% for changes that encouter the GodLike Template, but if this hurts the gameplay and make some class very annyiong to play, i find it rude
If i'm right Heal potion are available in NS4 ? How a caster kill a melee exepting with instant death spells if ya cant cast more than a spell in a round ? Maxed Isaac do only 240dam, greater shock is a joke, Bigby dont prevent heal actions and any fortitude Dc check spells will be easily saved by a melee no ? Again, this are interogations from a n00b that is just waiting on your wise answers =)
How about Dev Crit ? Is it baned ? I know it is certainly written somewhere but god damnit i've read like thousands posts and i'd really play now lol.
Thx Jester for the answer, i remember ya from old NS3 days btw =) Still spamming (*cough* i mean very active) boards i see. I'm glad you do so !!

I still don't think Overwhelming needs a buff. Dev Crit was just stupid in the first place.
If you look at NS4 as a new game completely and forget about everything you know about NS3, it's a lot more fun. There still a lot of quests and things to add and balance is still being worked on. If this is a problem for ya, I recommend coming back after NS4 is final. It's not as bad as Jester makes it seem. Mages still kick fighter butt unless the fighter is a better player. ;)
Dev Crit is simply not an option. If you try to take it makes you redo the level. :)
Jester still spams as much as possible. He hasn't reformed at all. ;)

I'm glad Dev Crit is banned. Thats what killed NS3 PvE, with PM immunity of course.
I'm trying to approach Ns4 without taking NS3 into considerations but ya know, its hard lol i played NS3 too much, this game made me totally addicted (before HotU).
What I really love is entering an old NS3 area like Garagoth and see how it has evolved. A tear drop on my face lol I remember rushing into the two abandonned houses to check if Mad Hermit was there
btw i'm still sad for haste. Maybe with a bit of time, i'll find natural to cast so slowly =)
cheers

I will list the spell changes that I have noticed. However being that I play a sorc, the list is somewhat limited to what I've taken myself for spells.
Haste, seems like a slightly buffed version of Expedicious(dang spelling) Retreat. I think it gives a bonus to ac and faster movement and an extra physical attack per round. It does not let a caster cast more than one spell in a round tho. I'm a bit confused as to why this got nerfed, it didn't seem to out of control to me...
Elemental Sheild, the damage on this spell has been nerfed so bad the spell is hardly usable, and you cannot stack it with Acid sheath to cause even more damage. I feel that this spell and Acid Sheath were nerfed too hard.
Mestil's Acid Sheath, see Elemental sheild.... Also the worse thing I've noticed is that at level 20 Acid Sheath seems to do equal or less damage than Elemental shield. Which makes no sence to me as this is a more powerful version of the damage sheilds. I feel the higher level a spell is the more damage it should do.
Issac's Greater Missle Storm(IGMS), has damage capped at 20d6 I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, and instead of a bunch of missles firing out, it has a firebrand looking effect. Meaning that if there's just one target, you only see one missle. If there's a bunch of targets, then you see a bunch of missles firing out.
Bigby's Forcefull Hand's duration has been extremely shortened, I don't know the exact time, but it seems to be about 3 rounds.
True Seeing, the type of seeing has been nerfed, it grants you the see invis spell and adds +20? to spot and listen, once again I'm not positive please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone know why this spell got nerfed?
Shadow Sheild's durations seems short compared to the other spells of this type...
Greater Sanctuary, the duration of this spell is extremely nerfed, and I was told that people with a high spot and listen can see you while you are in GS.
I was told that Time Stop was completly removed and not to even bother trying to use it.
Bigby's Crushing Hand, its weird... It doesn't hold something imobile like it does on other servers, it has some check that if they fail it they get knocked down for the round and take damage. If they pass the check they still get to move around as normal...
All the summon spells got changed as I'm sure you can tell. I was told it was based off of alingment of what gets summoned. Still experimenting with this.
Well that's all I know about for now, if I figure anything else out I'll be sure to let you in on it. Hope you find this helpful.

Haste: It is now using the D&D 3.5 version. WotC even admits it was out of control for a 3rd level spell. :) The rationale is that it's meant as a fighter buff, not as a mage buff. NWN took it a bit further than the PnP version even. Mages are not supposed to get 2 spells per round. Both WotC and the NS4 devs agree on it. :)
GS: Seriously in need of some change. It was nerfed from the extremely exploitable stock version but it's now a Sanctuary with a DC 24 will save. Spot/Listen doesn't have anything to do with it :)

If you're thinking Blackguard, no - only 1 PrC allowed in a character build.OneManArmy wrote:PS : oh yea i choosed the MA as home faction. I saw that PM was only available to them but i was wondering if i can take darkknight level too as it is noticed nowhere ?!?

I've never noticed haste being a big problem, all mages can cast it, and so it puts them all on even ground... *shrugs* Oh well. I guess that gives us a reason to invest feats into auto quicken.
About GS, a will save of 24 is pathetic. Everyone and his brother will be able to see through a will save of 24, especially the mobs who all seem to have incredibly high saves. I mean, it IS an 8th level spell. I personally feel that it should be a little more effective than that. No biggie tho... I can learn to live without.
Its the damage sheilds being severly nerfed that bother me the most.(Elemental sheild, Mestil's Acid Sheath) I could understand cutting the damage in half, but ES and MAS do miniscule damage compared to what they should be doing. I'm currently 20th level and both spells do anywhere between 6-15 damage... It's sad.
This is all just MHO of course, and in no way reflects the good time I'm still having on the server.

It's not to equalise mages, it's to make mages weaker. You know, against those other classes without haste? :)

2.5 !!! lol
Well my journey continue and now i'm level 8. I never had such a hard time leveling in any other Mods but its so good to feel proud to get your 8th level and that summon which now make you life so easier.
I'm estonished by the world and i felt in love with Wastes of Angmar (the tillset is so lovelly) and his bad boss, Angmar, that kicked me out of his dunes very fast. It was the first dragon i met btw.
But a question. If haste is the way you wanted to be now, why is there no perma Haste item ? This is a huge world, and i share the pain of those non-mage non-monk players hehehe
Cheers
