Improved Invisibility

Post by imom411 »

Has anyone noticed some bugginess with improved invisibility? The invis portion works just fine, but it seems the concealment is a bit flaky. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm going by the fact that sometimes when I'm attacked I get the "*target concealed 50%*" and sometimes I don't. Also, sometimes I get hit a lot by low-lvl enemies, and sometimes high-lvls are just whiffing. (This without mage armor or imp expertise or anything.) It seems to be mostly by castings (i.e. one casting it works, another it doesn't).

Have other people seen this?

Apparently, if you take the feat Blind Fight, you re-roll your miss chance if you miss due to concealment as well as Invis or Darkness. That might be it?

Hmm, interesting thought, but no dice. I'm currently playing a lvl 7 wiz running around the sea caves/ash mountain tunnels area. Nothing there has blind fight. Also, it seems the same enemies sometimes get a 50% miss chance against me and sometimes don't. It's hard to test this when I'm actually fighting enemies that could kill me--too busy casting to pay too much attention to the combat window...I guess I could try it with some easier ones.

And yes, I did make sure that the "concealment" effect was still running at the time.

What is happening is that it tells you "50% Miss Chance" if the enemy actually misses you because of the miss chance you have; if you look carefully, sometimes when is says that, the attack roll should have gone through, whereas if it doesn't say that hits that should go through do go through. If it doesn't say anything, the enemy got through the chance to miss. It's a convoluted system, but that's Bioware for you.

So you're saying, Yonwe, that you only get the concealment message if the attacker misses you AND it misses you due to the concealment? So if the target either hits you or misses you bc it can't beat your measly AC, you don't get the message? Interesting.

"So you're saying, Yonwe, that you only get the concealment message if the attacker misses you AND it misses you due to the concealment?"

That's not quite right, I don't think that's what Yonwe was saying. There is a roll against concealment, and in the case of II, it's 50%. If the attacker fails the roll, you get the message. If the attacker doesn't fail the roll, you don't get the message.

Rolling against concealment has nothing to do with your attack roll, and even less to do with AC. Concealment can make a critical hit on 20 miss.

If you're really interested and bored, let the enemies hit you, and count how many conceal messages you get out of the total number of enemy attacks. You'll find it'll be close to 50%.

In the case of blind fight, the attacker can roll again if he fails the first conceal roll. The math can get a bit nasty, but over time, you can expect an average payback of half the concealment bonus of your prey.

OK, I get it now. I do understand that if the attacker does not hit you BECAUSE they failed their roll against concealment. I thought that you got the message no matter the roll, but I see that's not the case. Glad to learn it's that simple! :D
