I don't understand what being new to NS has to do with not liking the new xp script. We were all in your shoes at one point, and we all had to go out and explore to find out which areas are good at what level, and which areas drop nice gear. If anything, being able to kill rats and get good xp from them would just make your problem worse; why explore when you can stay in your home city all day playing exterminator?
Keep in mind, that when people say that you could level to 40 with rats, the vast majority of people didn't go back to killing rats until their early 20's. There was a point where the xp you got from killing faction guards started to drop off, and the xp you got from killing rats kept rising, so people would take the faster route and play around in the sewers.
So people (for the most part) were earning their way to level 20, by killing stuff of the apropriate CR. Anyone who sat around and killed rats at level 12 had WAY too much time on their hands, and it shouldn't be that much of a hardship now that we don't get anything for it.

I got my level 20 and kick [censored] gear from knowing how to make a build that kicks [censored] eventhough it may not be fun to play. I then went out and explored every nook and cranny I could find. I found out how to get to each and every faction city.
I took it upon myself to gain knowledge about the world around me and how to stomp it into a bloody pulp.
Here's an easy one: Where can you make Master Artisan armor?
Complain less, play more, that's the only way to get better.
In the mean time:

I'm just razzin' ya btw, only because it's way too damned easy when ppl complain

i'm ok that u don't get xp from critters and gobbos if u're lvl 20+, but there must be a point that gives u some xp, like killing Demon of Destruction (cr22-24 somewhere) at lvl 30. That will give u 0xp with this script, and thats what i can't life with. Also u ain't getting any xp anymore if u go with a party of 5 ppl at lvl 8-9 to the mountain and beeing able to pin down a tree smasher
. This was always fun if you are able to do that and thats how u make new friends, but with the new script ,again, u gain 0xp
. Thats what bother me the most.
Whatever, you guys go ahead. Always been doing that, lost alot of people on the last 5 months, i think you're bussy with a good job
(sarcastic)

I got that “rats and goblins” could be exploited long before I did my first post. I was doing it by clearing every zone I had to go through when out exploring.
DrakhanValane: I bet you know several under the old system. But if xp was set at 1 back then how many would you have seen trying to get to level 20 by killing rats.
jwiwchar: Where in any one my posts did I say that I wanted “good XP for rats”.
People please read what I have said. Not what you think I said. In non of my posts on this topic will you see where I have said that getting an ascending scale of xp was good for light spawn. The only thing I said was that, “I found it interesting”. In all that I have referred to, is that you should get something even if it is as little as 1 (ONE) xp for killing a rat or anything -8CR from your pc’s level.
I thought this thread was called IDEAS AND SUGGESTION
I should imagine that people from development read this thread to get an idea as to how players are feeling, or maybe pick up on an idea that they possibly didn’t consider when they instigated something new. Or even run with an idea listed here and turn it into something wonderful and practical.
Please lets not shoot us down for it. It’s not whining or complaining. We wouldn’t stay here if it was.
Here’s another thing to consider:
Lets say 100 new zones go in. With xp capped at 0 for anything that is -8 CR below your level. All those new zones have to cater to players ranging from level 25 to 40. There maybe zones there for lower level. No one will know until they go in. A lot of mobs will disappear as useful for gains the
closer you get to level 40 unless there is a real mix of mobs in just about every zone. If and when a player gets to level 40 and if there is no mixture of mobs in each zone count on 60 to 85% of Neversummer not giving you xp. Add into that the number of zones that become unusable or broken because of cross server respawning of players and the loss of 2k in xp at level 40 by the current death penalty. You then can take your “wonder builds” to all kinds of places you like and you’d probably wish and find that getting at least 1 xp for killing a giant , an orge, the daemon in King Gus’s tomb or even a rat might come in handy.
Unless the dev team is prepared to install bind points at every cross server portal or figure out what scripting needs to go in to prevent it, broken areas are going to be a fact of Neversummer life. It can take up to 36 hours before there is a reboot of the servers. We’ve all seen that. And that’s a long time to wait to go to a zone that one was able to get gains form, rats, orges, giants or otherwise.
No one from Menzoduran is going to cross the servers to bind in Garagoth before going up the mountain top to fight giants when Avendell, even though it’s on a different server, is the closest bind point. So depending on, what zones go onto what servers, why should we expect anything different?
PS: I have no clue where M-A armor can be made. Though I mentioned that in my last post.

@ JustDrow: I think you already got it, but just to tell you, ignore Jester.
On Topic:
I understand the frustration of somebody who doesnt want to abuse the unappropiate xp system. I think its again punishing all for the bad deeds of a few.
But then again, how much xp would you get from such a creature? Killing things which are only some lvls below might be a better idea.
As a lot suggested you have to explore to find the new spot, where your build may gain some experience. The progress may be painful and you have to invest some time, but eventually it pays out.
Do you loose too much xp to gain an edge for your build? I dont think so, eventually you will get more xp then you loose. But then again it depends a lot on your build.
But we are forgetting one thing. The jobs at your hometown arent 100% included yet. And they help a lot gaining the first lvls to improve your build. Without them and with the ECL system (if you had to play a "cool" drow) it is very tough to lvl in some places.
Start a character with the Ancient Ones or in Last Alliance, you will see that it is easier there (if the jobs are still implemented, its a long time since I checked it).
And lastly its Beta and the final stone will be set "soon".

Thanks Chela Kirg:
I can’t ignore JesterOI he’s too cute, besides some of what he has posted elsewhere is actually good. I almost missed that line hidden in between the picture and his signature. I deleted about 3 paragraphs from the last post specially written for him. But before posting I re-read his and caught the “I'm just razzin' ya btw”, etc. And let it go at that.
I have only 1 drow. And do know the woes that can befall it when trying to level. It’s just at 6 so far. The rest of my characters have no sub-race in them at all. Plus I do know of a few areas that if they hang in there and don’t break to often I should get my characters up to lvl 24 without to much trouble. I have also started from different cities to get to know the land scape a bit more.
What struck me most about the new xp system was when my lvl 20 arcane archer got stuck in the middle of a whole mess of CR 9's I killed what I could, saw the 0 xp and I couldn’t heal fast enough to outlast the numbers that were on me even with help right there fighting beside me. Nasties love archers. What can I say. I was disappointed that for all that I did kill I paid the price for respawning.
Then I though about what it might be like going to King Gus’s tomb as a level 35, trying to clear everything out and for whatever reason you get mob killed right at the chests. For all your fighting to get there, as well as in all the zones you traveled through to get there. The end result is 0 xp but the cost to respawn would be a loss of 1750 xp. If your on the shy side of level 35 it could cost you the level.
Now I don’t know if the CR’s are going to change on some badies. It’s going to be one hell-of-a balancing act if DD can pull it off. We have no idea what the new areas are going to be like or what badies are going to be planted in there or how many new zones there will be. Tons of variables. So I just listed a couple of things based on my "personal” way of seeing things along with some insight that may have been overlooked. My “personal” way of thinking about this is that it’s not fair that if you kill it you get nothing. That doesn’t make my view right or wrong, it’s just simply the way I see it. Then when you look at the big picture and get away from just “rats” the 0 xp the whole thing starts to take on a slightly different view. Eva picked up on something else that I never realized.
One of the biggest things that attracted me to Neversummer, oddly enough, was that cap at lvl 25. It takes much more skill, planning and testing to come up with a good build given the limitations than it does to make a build to level 40 which is much more forgiving. Once you have a bunch of level 40's running around you’ll find that most will be somewhat evenly matched. A caster might have it over a fighter by a slight margin and a stealther over a caster, but in the end it will be close. Whereas 1 point in 1 skill or 1 feat that is different when things were capped at 25 could make all the difference in the world.
