No XP for Archers

Post by JesterOI »

Hardly seems fair that an archer making a kill from an extreme range doesn't get XP for doing exactly what he's supposed to be doing...

I have to agree with the Jester on this one. The range is a little too small. Archers and mages need to attack at a certain distance because they aren't tanks, and they usually get clobbered quickly if they find themselves in melee. I agree with the basic idea behind the range penalty; I just feel that it's implemented a bit too severely.

I do believe the reasoning is that there is bug that allows you to kill a mob at extreme range without taking any risk, so they made the XP range shorter to make sure the enemy was aware when getting stuck with arrows.

i'm not too keen on not getting xp at a long range. suppose i was a sniper in the military and nailed a mark from 1000 yards on a hilltop. just because he didn't know i was around doesn't mean it doesn't count. its just that you have to take some advantages as you get them. i haven't met up with very many mobs that didn't immediately take notice that i hit them with magic missle or other ranged attacks from a long distance. most times than not mobs go out of their way to find and kill me no matter what i do.(gnolls for example will chase you out of the pits even if u go invis) the only difference is that i don't get xp until i let them close into dangerous proximity.
when death comes for you and you are not afraid, if he asks why tell him you met me

That is the one thing that bother me about online games.

But a warrior or archer that doesn't use their distance weapons from cover is going to be overwhelmed. Many a real battle has been won because the other side couldn't reach the ones firing at them.

I realize allowing it can be exploited... but it also doesn't make sense to never allow a character to take advantage of cover.

Maybe configure it so there is a chance the mobs wont find the character firing arrows and spells from a long distance right away ?

I think that would be more in keeping with Heroic adventures.

Sometimes the mobs spot the ones firing at them quickly and sometimes not.

But I don't think they should automatically spot them.

So the exp range compensate for NPC's not being able to see you if your further away then 28 meters.
