When I came to NS East and started my new character I found some nice stuff in the box that really gave my toon a boost. To pay that back I try to drop some good stuff in there every now and then.
Last night a brand new guy joined the server and I started talking to him next to the DM chair. He said he was a wizard and I told him lets go to the donation box, I just dropped a couple of sets of wizard gear literally 5 minutes before. It was so annoying to come back after dropping a bunch of Melencia stuff to find the box looted of everything sellable.
The other idea I have is to start new toons with ~40,000gp. So there's no incentive to go sell stuff out of the box if you're new and don't know better.
Mark items put in the donation box as plot items(unsellable)
