Connection failed try another Nick
Ok guys this probably is in the wrong folder. But im haveing a problem with getting the multiplayer to function properly. I bought the NWN Diamond pack for trip earlyer today and we installed it properly and set up an account on gamespy for him, we even updated the NWN properly but whenever thats all said and done, the multiplayer seams to always say Connection faild try another Nick The game is installed on his computer another computer running in the same house, with internet however my cp runs just fine with the game installed other wise I wouldnt play as much as I do.
*Could somebody please tell me why its doing this and what I can do to get the situation solved so that trip and I can both play.

When connecting from the same LAN, a slight change may need to be made to the nwnplayer.ini file in his installation directory (default is c:\Neverwinter Nights\NWN\)
Open the file using Notepad. You may want to back this file up to another folder if you are scared that you may accidentally change something, or if you need to change something (read the Example below).
Using the Find command (Ctrl+F), locate the following line:
Client Port=#### (#### is a number, 5121 by default, I think)
Write this down, close that file without saving, and repeat for each NWN client on your LAN. if any of them have the same #### value, then you need to change that number to a port number that no other client is using.
Example:
Client 1 #### = 5121
Client 2 #### = 5122

Re: Connection failed try another Nick
The NIC is your Network Interface Card. This is actually just a chip on the motherboard on most computers these days. What it means is Neversummer tried to access the net and couldn't so it thinks your NIC is off or bad. I get this periodically when my machine has been running for a long time (6-8 hours). Once it happens, it seems like NWN will not try again until I reboot. The one time I got deep into this, it turned out that NWN was trying to access my 2nd NIC. Most of the newer motherboards actually have 2 NICs built in. Since the 2nd NIC is turned off, NWN reports it.--Cross-- wrote:Connection faild try another Nick
Without knowing more about your hardware, I would suspect that you have 2 NIC's and NWN is trying to access the wrong one.

I dont know if this will help but were running that computer threw a router not a motem i.e direct connection either. Its strictly threw a router. However I dont know if that will help any of you that are trying to help us out.
Furthermore, we have tryed to change the numbers around hence the *5120 numbers on up to **** 5125, although nothing has worked. If anyone can think of anything else to do we would greatly appreciate it.
Hope to hear from someone.

This problem is occuring before the router or modem, so that won't make a difference right now.
Presuming you are running window xp:
go to Start, Control Panel, network connections.
This will show you all lan ports( i.e. NIC's) that your computer has. If you have more than one, and they show connected, then NWN is trying to use one that cannot get to the net. If this is true, you could try disabling one of them to see if NWN will use the other one.

Ok I figured out what you have just told us to do but the exact same thing happens with everything I turn off one at each time. however there is one thing that I turn on and it has to do with the advanced settings threw the firewall settings when I turn the nwn ip on threw the firewall advanced settings and the game spy ip settings threw the firewall advanced settings also.. It seems to do this...
After I turned all that on I thought for sure I had figured out the problem figured out. So I went back to Start, Control Panel, Network Connections. And repaired the everything. Got the new IP patch then tryed. (Same thing happend) -Connection failed try another nick-
So after all that I got to thinking if what I just did had a cause with the other computer with logging on the game.. (Talking about the one that does work) So I logged, joined the internet and to my suprise it says (gamespy not connected, please try again)
That to me states this.. If I ever get that message that means my internet doesnt work so I have to go connected it threw the main computer in the (liveing room) where the router is. But for what I did on the other cp that message poped up (gamespy not connected, pleasetry again). But my internet was still intact. -- This must mean it has to do with my connection on the cp that doesnt not work. After I figured this out I went back to the cp that doesnt work turned off everything I just turned on threw the Firewall advanced Settings. Went back to the other cp that does work and I got connected to the game no problem.. If theres anything you can think of DM Sun Tzu or anyone else. let us know.
Computer arrangements
1st cp (main cp) - In liveing room and it has the router
2ndcp in one room- Game works threw internet
3rd cp in other room- Game works but not threw internet (connection failed try anothernick)
All of the cps have regular internet. but the 2nd and 3rd cp run to the 1st cp in the (liveing room) threw a router..
Just thought I'd clerify that hope to hear from someone

Does internet works fine on computer #2 with the exception of multiplayer gaming?
Did you need to open ports on your router to allow comp #1 to play online? If so, you may have to do that also for comp. #2.

lol, I totaly am an idiot DM Sun Tzu.. On the Neverwinter Nights Platinum addition. To instal it, it takes a CD-Rom to run the game. On the Neverwinter Nights Diamond addition it takes a Dvd rom drive. This is the whole problem and it was just a simple one that I never noticed until now. Lol this makes me feel retarded but good at the same time. Because now all I have to do is take the dvd rom drive out of the cp that works (Cross's) cp xfer it to mine and whata know it will work (hopefully). If something happens and it still does this I' will let everyone know what is going on. Well thanks for all your help and to everyone else.
