Whirlwind vs Improved Whirlwind?

Post by CrazyJ »

The only difference I can see between the two is that one is a 5' radius, while the other is "whatever's in range of the weapon"--so maybe a slightly larger circle for a halberd or something.

Is that correct or am I missing another advantage?

according to the manual you WW and get 'a full attack action', so presumably you should be hitting things in the same turn.

It says the character makes a full attack action in both descriptions.
The only difference I can see is Imp. WW has a larger attack radius.
ATM I can't recall seeing any stats or settings in the toolset as far as weapons range goes.
Will have to try it out in a test mod sometime.

Is imp whirlwind a feat in PnP? If it is, does anybody know the description?

One thing I do know is that even when it says that it makes a full attack action you can still use a single heal kit between whirlwhinds and not miss out on a whirlwind.

I'm guessing it works with potions too.

Unfortunately, WW doesn't queue properly...

Ya... That nasty attack action shows up... I've never understood why they purposely make things annoying.

If you time it right, just at the end of your twirly dance you can hit WW again and it will over ride the attack action.

dont know about 3.0 but in 3.5 regular ww gives an attack against every enemy within reach. There is no improved ww.

Some friends of mine investigated improved whirlwind very carefully on another server. The consensus was that the size of the weapon doesn't matter at all. You'll reach as far with a dagger as with a halberd. Improved whirlwind has a much larger range than whirlwind.

In a way that's nice since you have to have a huge base dex to even get imp whirlwind and wouldn't likely be using a halberd with a dex-based toon. Otherwise, it seems kinda screwed up. I wonder what Bioware was thinking when when they randomly added feats and changed the way spells worked.

Improved Whirlwind in 3.5 for those interested.

IMPROVED WHIRLWIND ATTACK [EPIC]
Prerequisites: Int 13, Dex 23, Dodge, Expertise, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack.
Benefit: As a standard action, the character can make one melee attack for every five points of his or her base attack bonus (including epic attack bonus, round fractions down).
The character cannot attack any one opponent more than once as part of this action. These attacks (as well as all other attacks made until the start of the character’s next turn) suffer a –4 penalty.
When using the Improved Whirlwind feat, the character also forfeits any bonus or extra attacks granted by other spells or abilities (such as Cleave or the haste spell).
Since these attacks are made as part of a standard action the character can’t make a 5-foot step between any two of the attacks.
Normal: Without this feat, using the Whirlwind Attack feat requires a full attack action, and the character can take a 5-foot step between any two of the attacks.
